Bad Paint Job - Porsche 951
Let me start out by saying that you get what you pay for. I listened to a friend about a paint shop next to his garage that did great work and I dropped my Porsche 944 Turbo there. After 8 months of running around, I was finally able to get the car back. Its missing the brand new Bosch battery I had installed a month prior to drop off, its missing my gas lid, there are chips all over the place and some bubbling up on the front and rear areas.
I owe this guy $1400 for the work. I will be deducting $200 for the battery and another $50 for the gas lid. I do not want him to fix the chips and bubbles. I do not want to have him touch my Porsche again. How much would be a fair price to deduct for the chips and bubbles. There are about ten chips throughout the car and two areas of bubbling. I'm also missing my front and rear emblems.
Thanks for your help guys.

Don't pay him a dime. Contact the better business bureau and Small Claims court if you have any issues. Take pictures and paperwork of written estimate to deliver the car in the intended condition if it becomes a legal issue.

That would be fraud. Better to negotiate up front than have lingering problems going forward. The only determining factor is restoring the car to acceptable condition and the cost associated with it.

I sent him a text saying I would be using the balance of the money to get a new battery and to pay for the respray. He wrote back saying he was not the one that took the battery, but someone else in the shop, but didn't say anything regarding anything else.

Ya.... I wouldn't pay anything for that kind of work (unless you were expecting cheap, and not quality work). In fact I think he owes you for the stolen car parts and ruined paint.

Yeah that looks like ****, pay with your visa or PayPal if he tries to hold your car then just dispute the charges. Better if you use your Amex. The check cancel may cause you fee's.
Where are you located, and what is the name of the "shop".?

I would think you are in a good position to not have to pay him the $1,400 plus be due money for replacing the battery, gas cap, emblems, etc. Pics look like very shoddy workmanship by someone who doesn't know what they are doing. I think the biggest problem I would have is that it took 8 months. You can't expect show-quality finish for $1,400 but if he had finished it in, say, 1 month you could have just had him re-do sections that were bubbling with the expectation that you would get the car back in another few weeks or so.....with the missing parts installed.
I'd probably slap the friend who recommended this guy (lol)
