Honda V6 swap
#18
But it would not be Porsche any more? What a reason to buy Porsche with proper Porsche engine if you could get 924 with VW engine there. Hmmmm....
Just buy Honda 2000S?

Someone needs to drop a VW / Audi 2.0T into a 944.

I'm sure I'm not the first one to bring this up, but for whatever reason it's been on my mind all morning. I know I can't afford to throw money at a LS swap, and at the same time... I have a worrying oil pressure issue with the 2.5
The ideal engine for a 'budget' swap into a NA 944 would be something reliable, efficient, doesn't require a ton of driveline modification, and preserves the spirit of the car.
Go ahead and flame if you want, but a Honda 3.5 could be a great swap option. It's higher output than the 2.5, but won't require a 951 trans/clutch or bigger brakes. The fact that they're common, cheap, efficient, and reliable also give it credence.
I've never done an engine swap, so I could be way off on this. I know some parts like the bellhousing, mounts, and headers would have to be custom.
I used the search function as well as Google but couldn't find anything concrete about 944 Honda swaps. Anyone on here have any knowledge on it?

I suggest to consider a 968 conversion.
- 968 conversion is a well trodden path, there shouldn't be any unpleasant surprises.
- a 944 with a 968 motor is basically still a stock 944 motor (S2 with some additional goodies).
- enough HP gain to make it worthwhile but not too much torque as to overwhelm a N/A drivetrain.
- if you can do it yourself and can get an inexpensive 968 motor, you may even just come out even should you decide at a later point to sell the car.

You'd need the computer, exhaust, radiator...but I agree. If it was me and I was gonna replace the N/A engine, I'd do it with another Porsche engine.

plenty of good suggestions already on this thread but here's one to consider:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151171025965 $400 + other items as needed.
Just trying to add some options to your mix..
After the holiday, let us know sup with the oil pressure.
Cheers

for the average sell price of a 968 motor i could nearly buy a crate LS3.
if i were to do a V6 id probably wait until the GM 3.6DI motor comes in a box.

If you are going to go that route, might as well use the 2.2 liter Audi turbo from the same era as the 944. Capable of some serious power and who knows, had VW / Audi hung onto the 924 project it may have found its way in there by the factory......

minus the transmission and 951/941 suspension/brakes/etc.

N/A transmission can take a 968 motor, at least if properly shifted and driven (street car).

See here:

FWIW, I've run 15W-50 synthetic year round here in Austin (just south of the OP) for the past 19 years I've had the car, and the engine oil pressure and usage is still normal. I know it's not ideal for freezing weather but the weather changes so fast here, it's crazy.
