Dear Mazdaverx..Glad to see what a nice stone grey car looks like. Hopefully mine will look as good when I finish my resto..Mine is an '83 and is all apart. Nice cruise control and power steering! Thanks for the pics! I'm all alone and doing this up here in New Hampsterland. Does your car have electric seats too? I am trying to convert mine from manual to electric ones out of my parts car (88). Totally different beast and nothing hardly fits from one to another..Keep up the great work! Thanks!

Thanks!! The seats are manual. No power seat option until late 85 unfortunately. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions!

Got the car back in the garage to do some yearly maintenance and to trace a random no start issue. First thing is going to be the replacement of the speed an reference sensors. They have been messed with in the past and there is yellow tape acting as a connector. I think its due time to look into replacing them both. Going to clean the grounds again and maybe upgrade my instrument cluster bulbs.

I also plan on checking the timing and balance belt tension and condition. I may just replace them while I'm in there. Its not a tough job really and will add a couple years worth of insurance to the engine.

Going to tackle the replacement of the blower switch today. These are always a pain to remove. Will get more pics to post of the progress.

Took a couple pics of the car ready for some work. First on the list was a new set of plugs. I swapped the plugs with a set of platinum plugs when testing for spark on another 944 that I have. I don't run platinum plugs and I forgot they were in there and when I remembered, it was time to put the correct plugs back in.

Car ready for some maintenance:

Plugs that were in there. Not terrible, but I have had random no start issues since I swapped them to these platinums for testing:

New plugs. Back to the original copper plugs that I prefer:

I was pulling the center console apart to replace my blower motor switch and I came across a neat owners card that was wedged between the top of the center console and the dash. I have the original window sticker, owner's manual, warranty book, dealer add on sheet, EPA sheet, and PCA stickers. This led me to believe the car was once well cared for. I always wondered who bought the car new and what they looked like, what they did etc. I found this card and looked up the original owner's name only to find that he had passed on. Seems he was a doctor and a respected member of his community. I have never seen anything like this and its going straight into the owner's booklet in the house where it belongs.

Here is the link to what I found on the original owner:

Once the blower motor switch was replaced, I could hear a squeaky bearing in the blower motor. I removed the cover and the motor and cleaned the pocket where the blower motor sits and vacuumed all of the junk and leaves out of there. I then cleaned the blower motor and oiled the bearing and put it back together and it works great without any squeaking.

Blower motor out for cleaning:

Appears to be the original blower motor:

Light under the hood is still working which is nice:

Hella H4 headlights installed as well:

Next step is a fuel filter and oil change. I also need to find some replacement tail light housings and fix the sunroof. The fog light lenses are cracked and I have replacement lenses, but the screws in the current housings are frozen. It may be time to remove the lower valance panel.

They are Karl. However, it is strongly recommended that the headlight wiring harness be upgraded so as not to melt any of the wiring. I have been told since posting the pic that there have been cases where the headlights can cause wiring in the harness to melt due to the power draw. I have not experienced this personally but the idea of that happening is scary stuff!

Went to change the speed and reference sensors yesterday. Never had a set that was more stuck. Bracket came out and the sensors were..... extracted. Will post some pics..
