944 won't rev past 3200 rpm
Everything seems fine, starts right up, idles well, but my problem is the car won't rev past 3200 rpm. theres no excess smoke or anything. this problem just started this week. I noticed the spark plug wires were arking (spelling) against the engine, so i changed the wires, cap, rotor, ignition coil, and ignition coil wire. Also changed the fuel pressure regulator, and fuel filter. I'm getting pretty stumped here. any suggestions? 1984 Porsche 944.

What happens when you drive the car and rev the RPM's to 3200, Do the RPM'S jump up and down, hold at 3200, or does the car die.?? Or can you even drive the car?
I also have an 84 944, never had this problem before, interesting.....
Try doing a Forum search for some info on this matter, I bet you are not the first one to have this problem..

When I hit 3200 rpm it's just sits there. It doesn't try to die. It will stay there but it's very hard to get past 3200 (or so). I can go through all gears but just can't get it to rev higher. we're trying hard to get it ready for tommorow's Parts heaven event. It's blue with silver aftermarket rims. You might see me there.

I would have to guess this is an electrical or fuel problem or a mixture of both, one causing the other to not work properly.. The water from the tailpipe is nothing new, this is normal. Especially after the car has been sitting over night.
Check fuses, check wires, check vacuum lines, do basic things, you might come across something.
Have you done anything to the car recently before this problem started?

i had a similar problem on my car, happened around 2000 rpm on mine.
turned out to be crank reference and speed sensors.
seemed to be ok when measured with an ohm-meter,
but would not work properly on the car.
i'd check them out if i were you.

i do not know of any sites u can go to.
but the easiest, and i guess best way to check them,is to try some from a running car.
they sit on top of the bell housing,
just look between the engine and firewall.
two black sensors bolted onto the bell housing.
and put some tape over the inspection hole right beside them, before you start unscrewing.
(unless you actually have the rubber plug that is supposed to be there).
it has been known to swallow bolts, and they can be difficult to get out again
good luck
