Need some down and dirty advice on a fast 912 purchase in Germany
So i just purchased in Germany a 1959 Porsche Diesel Super Tractor, fully restored by the original owner who's father actually first purchased the tractor. I got quotes to ship to Ohio and DHL is my best bet. The price differential is negligible for a 20 foot vs. a 40 foot container. So wanting to get the most for my shipping money, I want to fill the container.
My brother inquired about an old and tired looking 67? 912 sitting in a garage next to his apartment by a guy that is enamored importing old mustangs and vettes to germany. He has no interest in restoring the 912. (Some german collectors are gravitating more towards the old american muscle)...anyways, I have to pull the trigger by friday, but not knowing details....... its all there, no rust but an original, tired, wornout example but it does run. I have limited knowledge re 912s and am willing to throw some money at it to fill the 40 foot container. It sounds as he is willing to take $8000 U.S. I am still awaiting photos. Would this be a fair price?

Too bad you are not in Orlando, FL so they could toss in a rear hatch with glass for a S1 Lotus Esprit... since you want to fill the container, lol...

turns out it is a usa car, he imported to germany, but now the price changed, sounds like he is researching current market here and may have a change of heart. What is going rate for a car that needs a resto? 10-16K?

rust free, all there, going rate is north of $20k.
I assume not a 76 912E.
For the 65 to 69 cars, older are more expensive, especially the green 5 gauge 65 and 66

the buyer had second thoughts on the 912 and backed out, no biggie, i have other projects, we are still dealing with DHL re shipping and customs, will post pics as soon as arrives…..i bought on german ebay, they run anywhere from a few thousand euros to 20000 plus for fully restored. Mine is supposed to be a compassionate restoration (whatever that means), an original owner tractor….we will see.
