My '79 is #0342, I think that both of our cars left the Zuffenhausen assembly line on the same day.
Get her running and enjoy !

I know it has been awhile, but I've been tingkering with the motor little by little. I've not had time to post. When I find time, I am working on the motor taking it apart but is a very slow process. I think I am just going to have someone do it. The question I have is , the motor has only 87000 miles "should I also get the case split?" Or just stay with the stud work?

The bottom end of these engines is very durable. If you had good oil pressure prior to pulling the engine I would tend to leave it alone; others may feel that if you have it this far apart.... That's where the fun (and $) starts!! Cool car; good luck with it - def a long-term keeper!

Thank you for the input Last930. The mechanic I will be going with also said the same thing you are saying, but ultimately he says it is my call. Decision, decision I guess I have to weigh it all out. $$$$
