3.2 Valve guides: Euro vs. USA
Hi there. Long time Boxster, 968, and 996 owner looking to buy some air cooled bliss. I have a Euro '85 going in for a PPI and was just wondering if anyone knows if the valve guides are different for a Euro car than the USA? I am aware that the motors are subtly different and the compression is higher for the Euro. Thanks in advance.

Euro pistons have more compression.
US cars were kinda split between Alusil and Nikasail cylinders (with matching respective pistons) while ROW cars mostly had Nikasil ones.

In 1985 there were 2 motors that could have been used in a 3.2 Carrera, not counting turbo)
930/20 was the base RoW engine
930/21 was used in US, J, and was the M298 option in the FRG
/20 has 10.3 cr, 231hp@5900, 284nm@4800
/21 has 9.5 cr, 207hp@5900, 260nm@4800
another difference besides the p/c and software was the transmission
Euro 3.2 Carrera used 915/67 w/ cooler, US used 915/68 w/o cooler
/68 has slightly taller gearing in 2, 4, 5

Memory lapse--were the ROW engines equipped with a catalytic converter on a country-by-country basis? (And then there still were countries where it was optional, right?)
I don't remember any of the new gray market cars that wandered into my life coming in with OE cats. Then again, they may have had to have them switched out. OR, the federalization chop shops counted on that as another way to pad the bill.
