Actually, they could be H1's, and REALLY worth some money.

Good point on the H1s. I wasn't sure what years they were installed.

Some other ideas on things to do:
1) Do you have pressure-fed chain tensioners? If not, those would be a good upgrade. It was the first major job I did when I got my car in 1993.
2) When was the last time the plug wires were changed?
3) Fresh Swepco lube in the gearbox
4) Make sure you are using the right oil with enough anti-wear additives.
5) Before your next alignment, you could change to turbo front tie rods
6) Not sure why it pops out of gear, but can't be good. I'd get that checked. This old thread on Pelican suggests syncros/dog teeth: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...-1st-gear.html

In the mean time I want to walk slowly into the long list of little things that need to be done.

I will post some pics.

Then for you 101 projects is the place to start ... a really good tinkerers starting point

Fixing thing is relatively easy, figuring out what needs doing will be harder. If budget allows I would take the car to a specialist and have them check it over, a bit like a PPI. That way you know what needs doing and can also figure out cost and make a schedule.

See that you are a WA state resident.
The local PCA, pnwr.org would be a great resource for local info/events!

This guy loves your 83 cab, first of its kind (see avatar). Hope to see you and your car around Seattle!

Avatar?

Discovered the 11th character of my VIN can only be an "S" (for Stuttgart), 12 years ago when I brought it to WA state, the Wa State Patrol, had to inspect it due to "Euro/Grey" car......well Mr. Trooper changed the S to a 5 (presumably by mistake), so now I have an appointment to have the WSP re-inspect to correct the VIN. So my first project is correcting the title....next will be the mechanical stuff.
