Stupid Things People Have Said About Your Porsche 944

1. Wrong Engine

It usually says a lot about your knowledge regarding a specific car when you get the engine wrong. Forum member Wombat7 was stuck in the tech line of an autocross, when he got into a debate with someone that pretended to know about the Porsche 944. He insisted the Porsche 944 had a flat-six engine, and he wouldn't accept the truth until Rennlist's own opened the engine compartment and showed him the four spark plug wires. They guy may have though the motor was in the back too.

2. Ghetto

Rennlist forum member SD Porsche Fan encountered a rather rude encounter. As he stopped at a red light next to a man driving a rusty red Porsche 928 the driver leaned out and told him, "yeah, my son has a ghetto Porsche, too," referring to the Porsche 944. There was no comment when the sleeper 944 left him when the light turned green, with the whoosh of his turbo wastegate as he shifted into second.

3. Poor Man's Porsche

1984 Porsche 944 reminded us of the popular claim that the Porsche 944 is "the poor man's Porsche", hurled at him by a classmate driving his dad's hand me down BMW 5-series. At the end of the day, this car carries the Porsche logo on it, and was one of the top handling cars of the 1980s at any price. Anyone that calls the Porsche 944 that probably has never driven anything made by Porsche, or any sweet handling rear wheel drive car at all for that matter.

4. Front-Wheel Drive?

It seems like when it comes to the Porsche 944, people love to say dumb things. For forum member Lorax, he had to listen to someone quote him a ludicrous price for CV joints, then say it was because of the front-wheel drive nature of the car. Sure, the 944 uses CV joints, and has a transaxle, bat both are located out back, where Herr Porsche intended.

5. It's Not a Real Porsche

The most common complaint in the forum is that people like to make the obviously false assertion that the 944 is not a real Porsche. This statement is stupid on many levels, and RennList members (and folks at Porsche), would passionately disagree. Just because it was less expensive than the 928, and just because it was water cooled with the motor in the front, it still goes around corners like a proper Porsche and has the Porsche logo on it. You can rest assured the engineers and marketing people in Germany are still proud of this affordable entry level sports car.
