History Matters

Porsche’s entire brand is based on motorsport making it one of the coolest companies selling cars today. While a lot of collector cars stay locked up in private warehouses never to be seen the company really does encourage owners to get out and flog them. They were, after all, designed to be driven. Goodwood is a great chance for old cars to come back to life with races that are close and competitive.

25th Anniversary

Last year marked the 25th time the Festival of Speed and the year the world would see the GT2 RS in action. Twitching its tail off the line at an early start the RS looked the business as it dove nose down into the first braking zone. A bit of humor unfolded as the driver attempted to start a donut that failed perhaps due to leaving traction control on. This allowed another 911 to catch up and the two played a game of cat and mouse to the finish. Many YouTubers got up close to the cars allowing some preliminary insight into the companies newest supercar.

Goodwood Revival

An incredible booth was put up at the revival showing off several aspects of Porsche Classic including period-correct body restoration and several displays of vintage equipment and engines. There were tons of old parts for real gearheads to look at with everyone dressed in vintage clothing. The brand really embraces it’s past and expertise in maintaining and breathing life into the cars that won the hearts of enthusiasts decades ago.

356

Two absolutely beautiful 356s were displayed for the public: one being an official car from the museum and another from pre-1952 known as a split screen coupe. No matter how fast modern 911s become in 2017 the smile you get from driving an original 356 is hard to beat. These cars have so much character and were brilliant in the time they debuted.

Dario and the Guys

Dario Franchitti made an appearance to rip the 918 around and gave it the nod with a grin that stretched ear to ear. The 919 Le Mans race car was taken out by Timo Bernhard who blitzed up the hill with bursts of full throttle that sounded like a pack of angry wasps. They even divulged there was a clear coat put over the car after it won so the dirt can never be cleaned off…awesome stuff.

Future of Goodwood: Expansion?

With such a great festival every year and awesome turn out I can only hope there are plans to do something similar to Goodwood in the United States. It’s tough, since the property is privately owned, but not impossible. Would you like to see a great hill climb in your hometown with the latest and greatest Porsches gunning for the fastest time of the day? Comment below and let us know what road you would like to see this held!
