Good Old Days

Porsche fans often wax poetic about the good old days, times when air-cooled engines and manual transmissions ruled the world. Modern Porsches are indeed far more capable in terms of performance, as well as more comfortable to live with, but most of us still prefer the analog feel of a simple 911. Thankfully, once again, Porsche is catering to us in that regard with the brand-new 992-gen 911 Carrera T.

Standard Manual

As has historically been the case, the letter "T" in 911 T stands for touring and describes models that offer a purist driving experience with exceptionally sporty equipment. In this case, a seven-speed manual gearbox is standard, though the eight-speed PDK is also available. And that is just the beginning of the no-frills nature of the latest Porsche T model.

Shaving Weight

Inside the cabin, there are no rear seats, because that's just extra weight, and who really needs them anyway? Equipped with the PASM sports suspension and riding 10mm lower with less insulation, the Carrera T offers up more sound, performance, and less of the cushy feel that a regular 911 presents these days,

Power and Speed

The new 911 Carrera T slots in between the 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera S, with an output of 385 horsepower, which will propel the sports car from 0-62 mph in a Porsche-estimated 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 181 miles-per-hour. Further aiding in those efforts is the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) system with a mechanical rear differential lock.

Standard and Optional Equipment

The 911 Carrera T also comes standard with the Sport Chrono package and can be ordered with the optional rear-axle steering. The T rolls on a set of 20- and 21-inch Titanium Grey Carrera S wheels, which are wrapped with 245/35 (front) and 305/30 (rear) tires, with other standard goodies consisting of the GT sports steering wheel, sports exhaust system and Sports Seats Plus.

Light and Distinctive

Tipping the scales at just 3,240 pounds, the manual transmission-equipped 911 T is the lightest 911 in the 992 lineup with the entry-level flat-six powerplant. It also looks a bit different thanks to a variety of Dark Gray accents, as well as gloss black exhaust tips.

Pricing

With a starting price of just over $116k - roughly $10k more than the base 911 Carrera - the 911 T is a solid value as well, though as is usually the case with Porsche, there are tons of options that can increase that price tag by a substantial amount. However, for those seeking a more enthusiast-oriented, simpler version of the legendary sports car, a basic, no-frills setup seems like the right way to go.
