The solenoid is on the passenger side, top of engine, under lines, about centered in this pic

Zooming in the orange/pink coolant leak is obvious

The plastic poly front bumper bend just enough to get to the brace bolts

And you can just barely get under it to crack the bolt loose, then remove by hand

Removed the plastic air deflection thing. Two plastic pins to remove, then a lot of wiggling to get out.

I used the VW tensioner tool. Would the world explode if we let it untension? Or if we used an allen wrench instead? Eh, veee not gonna ask such questions

I used the counter rotation tool, was actually helpful and easy

You have to press on the big coolant and air lines a bit, but you can get to the coolant pipe to block bolts

The pipe on top of the water pump, screwed on to it, was quite difficult to remove. Small pry bar and screw driver leverage helped.

You can just barely pry out the solenoid around the tubing. It slides up, again, small screw driver or pry to lift from under it helps.

I had to remove this vacuum line and push the gray tube (a/c?) above it to remove the solenoid.

To further clean/drain coolant I removed this black braided line with a green thread (smaller, center left). Has one bolt on drivers side engine head.
