Hard to see but the foam fills in all of the gaps. I did this on the inner one too. By having the unit out of the car I was able to really test and tweak things to make sure the flaps could easily move yet block the air that they needed to.

Testing the flap with just the foil tape. You can see the large gap at the upper right. There is also gaps all around it. The inner flap is the same way.

Bearing replacement kit. Got it from FCP Euro. Only issue is that the large screw & nut get pretty beat up. I need to remember to order spares.

Pushing the old bearing out. Note, I only used a standard 1/2" wrench for this. I don't think I needed to pull out my breaker bar at all for the bearing replacement. I did, however, to get the big nuts off. Also, no heat either. Kit worked like a champ.

Used a two armed puller to get the races off. I had to grind down the arms to get them to fit under the race.

I cringe when I see the videos with guys demeraling the vents to fix the foam problem. Owned my 2000 C2 about 24 years now. Probably had the dash out 12 or 15 times for various reasons. Last year to fix the HVAC blowing foam problem. With disassembly, the most challenging area is/are the screws for the upper center vent. Be patient.

It does go back together. The most challenging part is probably adjusting the wires & trim around the steering wheel area. Again, be patient.
