Default Seeking Advice on Tires?

Dear RL BrainTrust

I drive an 85 carrera stock for hpde events.

Was recommended by 3 different folks who know more than me to get better performance tires (currently I have street H rated tires so anything with a V rating or better will be good Im guessing).

Here are options folks have recommended : Nitto r888 or Potenza or Michelin Super Sport. I drive the car to and from track so need to have some tread.

What is a costeffective good option of these 3? Or are there any others that folks think might be better?

Thx in advance.

If you are using the stock 16 inch wheels the tire choice will not be as varied as for 17 wheels, although a popular tire for DE's on 911's is the Dunlop Dirrezza Star Spec and i also believe Bridgestone makes the RE11's in 16 inches.

Both are a good choice and are good in the rain as well !

Cheers

When I was tracking my 993 on a short track like the Streets of Willow at Willow Springs, I regretted getting 17" rims because at medium speeds and tight turns they dragged on the car, while the OEM 16" rims made the car much more tossable. On a big track, such as also at Willow, the 17s and the larger tires were better through the fast sweepers. But again for a street tire, the 16s were better. I also have like Yoko, Bridgestones, and BF Goodrich...all had sticky rubber.

My vote would also be for AD08 if you can find them in your sizing. RE-11 are great also for more track oriented driving. The Michelins will give the best highway ride and last longest, but don't have quite the dry traction of the BS or Yokohama for track use.

Hi,

I don't mean to steal the thread, but is the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 suitable for daily driving (city/hwy) and long road trips? This is for a MK2 996 C2 coupe.

Thanks!

R11 in 235/35-19 and 305/30-19 is excellent all day long tire. Slightly less stickier than AD08s but really fantastic on a street. Absorb bumps and look very beefy.

Default 996 carrera 911

Would a 315/25/19 be a good fit too? Just asking since I am looking to get rear tires too. I currently ride with 305/25/19 which are no longer manufactured. If some can suggest a few options, make model etc, I would greatly appreciate. I need one for daily use to commute to work basically. Also something to make my ride smoother and softer...
Thanks in advance
