How old are those tires? There were several generations of R-1s. I think there were actually two different compounds during the last version, which were called gForce R-1s. I never used those R-1s, but remember reading very mixed feedback from those who did. Over the course of a decade or so, I used several generations of R-1s before the gForce came out. I liked the version just before the gForce best. The closest current tire to those is probably the Kumho V700, which I currently run.

The BFGoodrich R1's were last produced in October 2000 as "g-Force R1" with the final inventory sold in total to Tire Rack. They're old enough now that their effective track use is gone. Try another source for your track tires.

BFG has new ones coming soon. Don't know how soon though. Try the Toyos.

I have used the G-Force R1's for SOLO II, although not on a Porsche and I was very happy with them. I have also run the Toyo Proxies Race tires also not on a Porsche and liked them as well, but they are not a competitive tire compared to Khumo's or Hoosiers. The saying is Toyo's Suck for a long time. But it also depends on your application and budget.

For SOLO II I run the Khumo's but I would run Hoosiers if I was more concerned about winning.

Both the Hoosiers and Khumo's are also very good for Road Race as well.

When BFG made the R1's, they were very comparable to the Khumo's.

I agree with brownd911 that any of the R1's still around will probably not be good. Now, if they are free or very close to it and you cannot afford new, I would use them.

Hope this helps.

To "Timmy, east coast bomber", BFGoodrich is not coming out with a new R1-type tire for the US market.
