Post NEW! Need wheel tutoring!

What wheels off other models and non oem wheels will fit on a 87 924S? Still keeping the car STOCK as considered by PCA regs.... First time Porsche owner trying to get educated! Thx in advance!

The 87 924S has late model offsets, so wheels from Boxsters and late model 911's will fit. HOWEVER, you can not go as wide as some of these wheels are. Especially in the front, where the stock wheels are right on the fender lip already.

7's can be made to work in the front, but they're a close fit. They may require spacers and/or rolling the fender lips.

With careful fitting (spacers/rolling fenders/camber), the 924S will accomodate 225/50/16's on 7's in front, 245/45/16's on 8's in the rear.

A popular upgrade is to use 6x16 fronts and 8x16 rears from a late model (C2 onward) 911. Boxster wheels may fit too, I'm not sure, but thsy can be found at pretty reasonable prices.

For clarification - some 225's will fit on a 6" wheel, but it's far from optimum. For street use, 205's on 6's in front, 225's on 7' or 8's in the rear would be a good setup.

Actually, you don't have to make any changes at all for DE, except for adding a fire extinguisher if your region requires one. Getting out there and experiencing it is much more important than the equipment -

That said, a great value-for-the-money upgrade is to install a set of swaybars from a 944 turbo. Used ones are plentiful and cheap, and make a huge difference in how the car handles. With those, and decent shocks and tires, you'll have a fun DE car.

I've gone through a lot of suspension evolution with my car, and many other changes, so I'll try to answer any questions you have -

Matt, I do appreciate all the info! What's a decent shock! Also need a good set of pads that aren't to hard on the rotors yet good for track use?? I also have a ? on short sifters. Give me a private msg., or email if to long winded for the boards! Dallas

I have Koni Sport shocks and they seem to do well. Quite a few of the 944 folks use them. (if you go with Konis, resist the temptation to adjust them too stiff - start with them fulll soft, for stock springs and torsion bars) I don't know a great deal about the other brands, though I do know Billsteins are excellent.

For brake pads, I think an economical choice for street and occasional DE use would be Metal Master. I used them for a while starting out. More than occasional DE use would call for a higher-temperature pad, though.

I don't have any experience with short shifters, the stock setup has worked okay for me.
