Porsche model: 1994 993c2 Tiptronic
HP: about 270 I hope
Suspension settings (stock, lowered, lowered/aggressive): Stock
Tire brand: Sumitomo HTRZ II
Tire size (rears): 225/265 on 18
Mileage : 6000 and plenty left
Town driving %: 50
Country driving %: 10
Highway driving %: 40
Roads mostly straight or curvy? 50% straight, 50% curvy
Style of driving (relaxed, medium, sporty): relaxed to medium
Ever accelerate up to redline (from standstill, on highways): Never
Hope it helps...

What's the point if all we're going to see is comments about how long a tire lasts and how quiet or noisy it is? There's hardly anyone who is interested in performance close to or at the limits.

A database of this sort would be a great benifit to Rennlist members that adds real value. Tires can not be underestimated in the behavior of a Porsche. I agree. Get enough heat cycles in any set of tires, and they'll last forever. They'll be hard as rocks, and have no grip, but they'll really last a long time. You want to drive on the street, get Pirelli P Zero Assymetricos. You want to drive to the track (and on the track), then get Kumhos. You want a track-only DOT tire, get Hoosiers. You want slicks, get P Zeros.
Drive them hard, and get new ones when they're wore out. Everyone drives differently. JoeCruiser with the Tiptronic Turbo may get 20k miles out of the same set that JohnnyRacer only gets 2k out of. So what?

Tire brand: just ditched ContiSport for S-02 N3
Tire size (rears): 255/40/17
Mileage on rears: About 10k on Contis, expecting rather less on S-02
Town driving %: 10
Country driving %: 40
Highway driving %: 50
Roads mostly straight or curvy? 50% straight, 50% curvy
Style of driving (relaxed, medium, sporty): Take a guess, if I wanted relaxed cruising I wouldn't have swapped a CLK for a 993
Ever accelerate up to redline (from standstill, on highways): often, esp. roundabout exits, very rarely from standstill (clutches are expensive!)
I was happy to get rid of the Contis and did not wait for the latest set to wear out, they were very progressive and the car would start to slide nicely at the tyres' limit, but that limit was pretty low. Only have a few hundred miles on the S-02's but they feel a lot better, and my previous experience of S-02 on a 968 was very positive.

Not too many answers to date. I am trying to find out why my rears are gone after 2000 to 3000 miles. When I here people saying they get over 15000 - 20000 miles I am baffled, because the 911 is a sports car and not a boulevard cruiser. I do drive sportily but not like a maniac. I am surprised that the differences in mileage are so extreme. I am not saying I want a hard tire for high mileage. I am just curious what mileage cars with similar tires to mine happen to get.

How much tread depth is left on your tyres when you replace them? Even wear across the tread? LSD working OK? Would have thought wearing out a set in 2000 miles would need very sporty driving indeed, or a permanently locked diff and roads like emery paper

Oh, why didn't you say so? I think I see a pattern that might help explain why you're only getting about 3k miles on the rears. You've got a 993 (they're infamous for rear tire wear to start with), aggressively lowered suspension, 310hp, wide tires, and always rev to redline on the highway (often on country roads, but seldom from a standstill). Sounds like you're having a lot of fun, but this pattern puts your rear tire wear in the same range as that of an NSX owner I know, who also has a lot of fun. Gotta pay to play.
In contrast, I live a boring life, but so far I've gotten over 15k miles on my S-02 rears. I use Kumhos for serious play.

Did you mean to say the 911 or 993? If 993, why in particular as opposed to other models?
I would think the 964 Turbos with no 4wd should also exhibit lots of tire wear. Any 964 turbos out there?

It's a pity that no one else so far has a 993RS with the same suspension and power output as yours. After all, that is the only data that is going to be of ANY use to you.

You also have to consider what IS SPORTY driving...to many people this definition is vary very much...
I have a solution to this: use a tin coke can and cut open the top fill water to the rim and somehow mount this on the roof of the car and go for a SPIRITED sporty drive. Come back measure how much water is still in the can or none whatsoever, then you can decide who/what SPORTY driving is from the results...what do you think??? <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

993RS: Yes, I mean more complaints on rear tire wear from 993 owners than from 964 and older 911 owners. That's what I've read anyway. I'd like to know if there really is a difference, or if 993 owners just underestimate their mileage more. On another thread someone wrote that he suspected that the improved rear suspension design for the 993 was to blame for more rear tire wear.
