What tyres for a 3.2 Carrera?
I have an ’88 Carrera Coupe and am in the market for a new set of tyres and was just about to buy a set of Bridgestone S03s based on the numerous recommendations I have had for them on Rennlist and Pelican’s board. Then I read a tyre shootout in a recent edition of EVO magazine. the tests were very comprehensive and the S03s didn’t do well at all.
From what I recall, they did well on braking in dry and wet and on dry track times and lateral acceleration. The wet track performance and lateral acceleration was poor though and the dry track times were in the middle of the bunch
Also, most of the subjective tests (done without knowing which tyre they were on) gave the Bridgestones a poor rating.
The three top tyres were the Goodyear Eagles followed by Continental sport contacts and Toyo in third. The S03s came in second last ahead of Avons and just behind the Dunlops
Now I realise that the test car (a ford I think) isn't a Porsche (fwd etc. etc.) and the tyre performance may differ in different sizes, but I am now totally confused
Does anyone out there have experience with these tyres on a Porsche?
Any advice would be more than welcome

David,
Guess it depends on how you want to use your tires. I have S03's in 205's and 225's in 16" for my street tires, and have different track tires. On the street, I don't drive anywhere near how I drive on the track, and overall have been pleased with the S03's. One of the reason I got the S03's was to, in addition to the street usage, be able to use it at the track as a rain tire. At the track in the rain, they are competent 16" tires, but not awe inspiring.

Thanks Bill
I plan to use the car mainly for road use with maybe a bit of DE in a few months time, so I guess that I am looking for a good all-round performance tyre.
What size do you suggest for my 15" rims (7 & 8's. I was thinking of 205/55 in the front and 225/50 at the rear for a bit more grip without altering my gearing much (I've got 195/60 and 205/55s at the moment)
Thanks for the help
David
BTW you may want to check out the Goodyears if you are looking for a good rain tyre - They did well in the wet handling section of the EVO test
