I just purchased the ECSTA V700's. A couple of points. My understanding is Kumho will ultimately "replace" the Victoracer with the ECSTA. I originally inteded to buy a set of 17" (7"/F & 9"/R) Cup wheels for the track. Only the Victoracers fit this wheel. Got a great deal on 18" turbo look wheels and only ECSTA's fit. The ECSTA's were orginally produced using the Victoracer compound but are now using a new (improved?) compound. Also the ECSTA's were designed to reach ultimate grip w/ less negative camber than the Victoracers meaning that for guys like me who are 97.5% street 2.5% track I can have my alignment street oriented. This if true is a good thing.

Three Wheelin'
Hey Kadeer!
The Ecsta 700's are the evolution of the V700. I never ran the old ones since I have 18" wheels, but I know the new ones seem to have stick comparable to the Hoosiers. No one claimed that of the old ones. They do seem to wear a little uneven though due to the tread design. How do the prices compare? I would probably go for the new ones unless you can get a great deal on the old style.
P.S. just make sure you get them before the next AutoX!

Hey Ed, I see you upgraded.
The price of the tires is pretty much the same, just the delivery for ECSTA is later.
But for some reason, TireRack has Victoracer ranked better in their survey, it shows that older have better dry traction, thus I wanted your expert views.

Kadeer,
The TireRack numbers are not rankings; they are an average of survey responses. These numbers should not be confused with scientific test data for friction levels and other properties.
I think you can use the information as a general guide. If the dry traction for one is 8.9 and the other is 9.1, you will not feel a noticeable difference in performance.
Now go out and buy some and tell us how they worked!

I put a set of shaved v700 on my 89. IMO they lacked the linear, predictable feel of hoosiers, and felt more like a street tire in that they got greasy after 6 laps or so. For me they were abour 1 second slower per lap (than hoosiers) at the Glen, which suprised me because strictly by how they felt, I would have thought they would be slower.
They are a lot cheaper than hoosiers though.

K-:
Why don't you talk to some of the guys at your next autocross. Several people are running each and a few have even run both.
For me, I am going to stick with the Victaracers.
See you on Sunday. Hehehe!

I can't compare them to anything other than street tires as the ECSTA are my first sticky tires (purchased for autocross). I have 225 & 275 on 17" cup wheels.
I bought the ECSTA as they are supposed to be better for street cars without -2 degrees of camber (my car has -0.5). They are waaay more sticky than street tires! They only started to get slightly "greasy" (but still better than street) after about 10 consecutive fun runs at the end of the day. During the normal runs they stuck well and were predictable.

Thanks guys for the responses.
I ordered the ECSTA for now, I have Victoracers on now. I went up a size to 225 and 275.
After I have tried them, I will post what I think of the new ECSTAs vs Victoracers.
However if I improve at the autox/track it is the tires, if I don't it may just be the driver.
