Winter Tires for 89 944 S2 Cab
Does anyone out there run winter tires (during winter of course) on their car. I live in Switzerland and we get a good amount of snow here. I posted this to alt.autos.porsche.944 but no one responded. Thanks.

Thanks very much for the response.
I did a little rechearch and saw that only Continental has V rated snow tires. Do these rate with the others you mentionned?

Most of these winter tires come in with the H rating. Some are available with a V rating if you go for 18's. The H speed rating is up to 130 mph (210 kmh), I cannot imagine anyone who might want to go faster in foul weather.

Dear Bob,
Where in Switzerland do you live. If you are around Zürich and on the flat maybe you can venture out into the snow in the 944. If you do I recommend Bridgestone Blizzaks. Maximum width of 185 all round. The Michelin Pilot Alpin are brilliant winter tyres for a Porsche but quite expensive. I paid 1700CHF for a set 205 front 225 rear. 16 inch all round. This is what I use in winter.
However if you live in the mountains, leave the 944 at home. Take it from somebody who has lived in Switzerland for over eight years. Rear wheel drive autos are best left at home in the snow unless on the flat,
Ciao,
Adrian
