Wink 944S2 DT wheel size

I am open to opinions. I would like to find the best size 17" wheels for DT events. I have a stock 1991 944S2 - non 030-

What would the best width be front and back and what would the offsets be.

Then what tire sizes should be used

Do not want to hit fenders or suspension

Dear Doug,
Your current offset is 52.3mm front and rear.
I would recommend you consider a set of 52.3mm 964 Turbo Cup Wheels.
7JX17 front and 9JX17 rear.
You could also consider 1996 and up 993 Wheels with 55mm offset or the Speedline Aftermarket wheels all with 52.3mm offset.
Will they rub. No idea. This is something you need to check.
What wheel widths do you have now. Subtract this from the wheel widths you are going to fit with the same offset. Divide the answer by two. Slide underneath the 944 and check the clearances front and back.
Every inch wider with the same offset it going to put the tyre at least 0.5 inch closer inside and out. Tyre width choice is also going to be very critical to avoid rub.
Standard tyres for the Turbo wheels are
205/50ZR17s on the front and 255/40ZR17s on the rear. Also remember that two tyres from two diferent manufacturers may not be the same dimensions. They can vary by up to half of your inches or 12.7mm in width,

Adrian

Doug-

I run 17's on the street on my S2. 7" w/55mm offset on the front, 9" w/ 52mm offset on the rear. These are Porsche "Cup" style wheels. Tire widths are 225 front and 255 rear and I experience no rubbing. My car is non-MO30 too.

For DE I purchased a set of 8" Design 90's for all 4 corners. This way I am running 245's at all corners and can easily swap them around to even out tire wear.

The 944S2 has the following offsets front to rear (non-M030)

55mm Front
52.3mm Rear

NOT 52.3mm ALL AROUND.

7.5" x 17" and 9" x 17" Front to Rear are the ideal widths for a 944S2 w/o the sport suspension. Those are the widths that Porsche put on the 968 (w/17" optional wheels).

Regards,
Max

Dear Mad Max,
Your installed wheels may have 55m offset(only in the USA)we have 52.3mm wheels but up front the actual offset is 52.3mm. This is a common mistake. The 55mm wheels are Speedline for Porsche wheels. Both 52.3mm and 55mm front wheels are available for the 944S2 or were,

I am running 993 cup wheels on my 944S,17x7 in the front and 17x9 in the rear,225/45-17 front and 255/40-17 rear,no clearance problems, rims are very light in weight and I also like the fact that the space between the spokes is large enough that you can get your hand in there to clean the back of the rims.My car also does not have the M030 suspension.Wheels look great also.
