Question Volk Racing TE37

1-piece forged 18's. Anyone tried them for racing? I know they are light but are they strong?

I know some people who have tried this wheel on other cars (not Porsche) and swear by them. They are supposed to be lighter than 20 lbs for 18" sizes and strong enough.

Who sells the Porsche sizes?

I believe the current "Excellence" has an ad for "by design" who carries the Volk wheel.

Question

So what do you do when you bend 'em? If you mangle a rim half with a three piece wheel you just replace the rim half. From a racing perspective I think the three piece wheel makes the most sense, especially if you're on a budget. If your "sponsor" will pick up the tab then I'd be all for the 1 piece!

I've been eyeing these wheels too. I think the light weight, about 14 lbs, would be comprable to Fuchs but the extra diameter will all the big reds. The bronze on a black on black SC should look pretty good too.

Here's an internet seller: http://www.mackinindustries.com/te37.html

and here is a link to distributors: http://www.mackinindustries.com/distrays.html

Yes, I have seen them advertised but can't remember where. They were listed as 8.5" x 18" and 10" x 18".

To be more specific on one source, p.28 December 2001 Excellence. By-Design. Description says: "An amazing 14 lb 1 pc Forged 17" wheel set $2198" 888-993-2911. Their web site doesn't show them.

Thumbs up

I can vouch for these rims, simply awesome. They are forged, lightweight aluminum. 1-piece. In addition to the TE37, Volk Racing now also has the LE37 and SE37 lines which are different spoke designs (the LE is similar ot the TE, spokes are a little more distinct. The SE is more of a mesh pattern rim). A number of the So Cal Supra/300ZX guys are running them and they're very strong and look spectacular. In addition, Volk Racing has an extensive color pallet for an extra $50/wheel so you can have them in different finishes. Now for those who have deep pockets they also have Magnesium forged TE37s (available in dark blue only i think) which are lighter/stronger than the aluminum forged onces but for quite a premium.

Volk also makes an 8-lb TITANIUM wheel for the Japanese market. Don't ask about the price...

Now I've got to know??? How much are the Magnesiums too? Just curious- I had to ask, so I obviously can't afford them

Any place that have good pics of these where I can see them?

Thanks,
Robby

Thumbs down

Don't generally like to dredge up post links, but I received this e-mail in response to my request.

I am interested in 7.5 X 17 for the front and 2 9 x 17 Volk TE37
wheels for
my Porsche, 1978SC. Please provide information as to pricing,
availability
for an SC with OEM offests and dealers in my area. I am located in
Newport
Beach, California

Reply:
Thank you for your interest on Volk Racing Wheel. We don't have
17" TE37 for Porsche application. Only Porsche application we
have is 18". Please contact Discount tire in El monte or Wheel
warehouse. They are two of our Volk dealers

Thank you

Sort of eliminates the wheel for P-cars as the 18" wheels are blacklisted.

Robby, not sure exactly how much but in the neighborhood of $1000/rim, I've seen them once in real-life (Volk booth at Battle of the Imports in Palmdale) and they are awesome rims, but pretty damn expensive. I've never heard of the titanium wheel, but i'm going to research it and find out, sounds pretty bitchin. Of course if you want lightweight with a reasonable, i would suggest looking at the SSR Competition wheels (these are what I'm looking to get for my SC next year hopefully).

On the 17" TE37s, there's another possibility. That's to drill a second set of holes for the Porsche bolt-circle. A lot of the rice wheels have two sets of holes, typically on 4.25" and 4.5" diameters. This is assuming of course that the TE37 have a solid center with a flush back side to allow a second set of holes to be drilled.
