Question Anybody ever hear of Simmons Wheels?

I have an Arena Red 1996 turbo, and I'm thinking about replacing my hollow spoke turbo wheels for some "mesh" style wheels. I've looked at the Kinesis, Fikse, HRE, BBS, and Cargraphics wheels, and I like them all, but they're a tad on the expensive side. I just came across an ad in the Excellence magazine for Simmons wheels, and they can make up a set of 8.5x18 and 11.0x18 OM wheels with gold centers. The option 2 package is $2695 for the set, and the fronts weigh 22 lbs, the rears 24 lbs.

I'm thinking that my hollow spokes (nice, but a few scratches in the paint) should sell for around $1200 for the set.

Am I nuts? Thanks,

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid this thread was going to get lost. So... am I nuts? Should I just keep the stock wheels and quit screwing with this beautiful car? I have 52,000 miles on it, and how long can those stock K16s possibly last? I can get turbos for very little more than this, but then I should also get a cooler and a 5bar FPR. I already have the Gemballa ECU (from Stephen, BTW). What the heck would I do with even more HP anyway? Oh... the confliction of it all.

Steve:

Make sure they are true 18" wheels (center is 18"). If I remember correctly, I believe the center is 17". I was looking at Simmons before purchasing the BBS LM.

Steve,

Speaking of wheels, you may want to check out http://www.iforged.com. They are forged, true 18" or 19" and light. As far as pricing, they are within the ballpark that you're looking for.

I have no affiliation with the company.

Good luck.

Ron,

Thanks for the web site. Their wheels look very nice also. I've been away on vacation, and was using a friend's digital camera. Canon EOS 1Ds. That's the 11 Mpixel SLR. Cripes. Now I have to add a smaller version (Canon EOS 10D) to my Christmas list. Too many toys, not enough money.
