need advice on 17" cup wheels with 225 tires
This topic is probably discussed quite a bit already but I just can't find the right combination of answers that I'm looking for.
Currently my 95' 993 has F-205/R-255 mounted on 7" and 9" by 17" cup wheels with lowered ROW M030 suspension and larger diameter sway bars. To dial out the inherent understeer I was told that 225 width tire on the front 7" wheel would fit ok. I recall some other recommendation that mentions using 225 would create too much flex (buldge) on the tire so that the side wall would be less stiff. I've also heard that the sharpness in steering response may lower due to the wider tire. Going to 7.5" or 8" wheel would probably solve the problem, but if I didn't want to spend more on new wheels which is the better way to go, 205 or 225 (with 255 in the rear)?

It made improvements for me (with Kuhmo Victoracers though, which have a stiffer side wall). Are you going performance tire or "get around town" tires? I put a cheap Kuhmo street tire on for inbetween races, there's no bulge at all.
Good Luck,
Dylan.

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually have two sets of 17" cup wheels. I was planning to use one set for track and the other for street. Kumho VR are one of my choices for the track tires and I was also thinking of the S-03's for the streets. Now I'm leaning more towards the 225 in both applications.

I have 205/255 (F/R) SO3's on my street wheels because I was worried about fit. I finally went to 225/275 Kuhmo Ecsta V700 on my alternate wheels and have had no problems (this is with the 7" and 9" cup wheels on a narrow body '95 993). The difference in performance on an autox course is striking (SO3 vs V700).

I have the 17 cups on my 95 and went with 225/45 and 255/40 with street tires so I can dial out some understeer which the combo did!. Two DE's later no issues whatsoever! Would not go back to 205's anymore.
