Post 44mm offset on 86 951

Does anyone know if I can use 9 x 17 and 10.5 x 17 wheels with 44 mm offsets on an 86 951 without going to spacers. If I do need spacers what width would be required? The tires are 225/45 and 255/40.
Thanks
Rob

Nope no way. The tires will rub on the springs in front and on the spring-plate bolts in the rear. You'll need spacers, see the 944 Wheels FAQ section on my 951 RacerX website. Instead of the 21/28mm spacers listed there, you'll need 15/21mm. The 21mm rear was used standard on the '83-85 944NA cars. The 15mm was used on some other car... don't know which model off-hand. Or you can just shave down a 21mm spacer.
