Default Driving without center caps?

Hi everyone,
I take out my center caps for track use, but a friend advised me not to drive with them off for the street, due to dirt buildup in the wheel centers. So is this something to be worried about, or am I ok driving without them?

Thanks!

I don't see any problem. The bearings frt/rear are sealed units. I use my car also for the track/street and don't run center caps. If its a daily driver through mud/snow etc... it wouldn't hurt to run them. It's more of a cosmetic thing on the street really. On track its safety.
