will 45 make a diff over a 40

on my 1988 944 turbo S i have a set of bridgestone S-03 and my front tire blew out my tire sizes are 235/40/17 and 255/40/17 now i was able to get a brand new 235/45/17 will this effect my front in a big way or in a dangerous way

I think the 45 aspect ratio (AR) tire is about 1" greater in diameter than the 40 AR tire, so the side with the 45 AR tire would be raised about .5" higher than the other side. I'd replace with the 235/40 size to keep the front sides at the same height, and retain the original downward slope from rear to front. The 235/45 size you are considering is actually slightly greater in diameter (taller) than the rear tire. Although I can't estimate how dangerous this might be under spirited driving, I can't imagine anything good coming from the switch you are considering.

In re-reading the original posting I realized that you are changing only one tire so it would not be okay to use just the one tire with a different aspect ratio than the other side. If using 45 on both fronts then it would be fine.
