Default Tire Rack Shipping Charges

Did anyone else notice Tire Rack raised shipping costs?

I am looking at some SUV tires,

BF Goodrich
All Terrain T/A KO
LT265/75R-16

Costco is $201 each installed.

Tire Rack is $173 each but plus $99.75 for UPS ground.

Discount Tire is $170 each with free shipping.

Damon tell the boys at Tirerack they are losing the edge on pricing!!!

Fuel prices are rising so all shipping companies are rasing their prices....happening to us as well.

Thanks for pointing this out!

I get so busy and just routinely expect TIRE RACK to have best prices so my laziness seems to be costing me!

Crazy. Just got 4 17" tires shipped from TR to the local distributor (my shop) for less than half of that shipping cost. They literally arrived yesterday.

I bought my last set of tires from www.racetire.com and shipping was $8/tire. Although this was in May and might be higher now. They were very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

I don't disagree. UPS and FedEx have raised prices on freight several times this year so far alone. Keep in mind that freight charges are based on weight and distance, and pickup tires are heavy. Freight charges vary between 10 and $25 a tire, it just depends on what you buy. Many of our competitors also don't have in stock what you want, either even if they say they do to get the sale. It just depends on you if you can wait or not.

We understand margins are getting tighter and we are doing our best, even at the economies of scale that we can enjoy with the freight companies. We hope that our testing, information available, and service has a value too - because it isn't free to provide it at the level that we do. As soon as oil prices go back down, so will our freight costs.

We truly thank you guys for your support both now and over the years.

Also a good thing to point out is TR usally ships to us UPS Ground; UPS just recently changed how they calculate cost on shipping to dimentional weight. Basicly favors UPS always! http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/res...im_weight.html

I shipped two tires the other day that were banded together and here was the outcome:
1x 245/45/17
1x 275/40/17

Banded together measure:
26x22x26

Actual Weight:
46lbs

Dimensional Weight:
(26 x 22 x 26 = 14872 / 194 = 76.65)
77lbs

So you should get charged on a 46lb package but due to UPS using dimensional weight your now getting charged for 77lbs.

We always band tires together when possible as well, which reduces package count from two to one. It's cheaper to ship on package of two tires than two orders of one tire each. Obviously due to size SUV and truck tires have to be shipped individually.

We're doing our best.

How are tires shipped Overseas? In 2 groups of 2?

Depends on if the size and weight fall within the shipper's weight restrictions. UPS cuts off at 75 lbs. a package I believe.

I hate to be disloyal to a sponsor, but Discount Tire Direct charges and no shipping, and does the install reasonably or free sometimes. I've never had to wait more than a couple of days, and I couldn't get there before the weekend anyway.
