so before i got the car the dealer installed new tires. the tires that got installed are Michelin Pilot Sport. Not PS2. Not Rib. Just Pilot Sport.

the problem is that i dont see Pilot Sport show up on tirerack search for my car -- i only see PS2 and Rib. did i get screwed by having PS installed? i would assume the dealer knows what he is doing, but is Pilot Sport an approve porsche N-spec tire?

All N-spec tires have it listed on the sidewall of the tire, so you can just look at the tire to figure it out. I don't think there is a Pilot Sport N-spec tire. It will always be NX, where X is a number. The first time the tire is tested it will get N0, and then each time they make a change and re-submit it to Porsche, it will be bumped up 1. I have not yet encountered a tire with more than N3 (4th generation).

If it was a real Porsche dealer, and it is not an N-spec tire, I would go back and ask for (demand?) replacements.

well it says N1 on the side, but my question was about the tire itself. Pilot Sport. is that an approve porsche tire?

N spec denotes Porsche (specifically) approval.

The standard Pilot Sport tires were never N spec rated for the cars. Only the Ribs and the PS2 in some of the 997 sizes. Read this article we wrote on the subject.

The tires you have are not "bad" tires because they don't have the approval. They just didn't get Porsche's stamp is all.

hmm.. considering that porsche dealer installed these tires for me, should i ask them why i did not get porsche approved tires on my car?

also, it does say N1 on the side of all four tires...

Are you sure your tires aren't "Ribs"? I bought standard Porsche-size (205/50, 255/45) 17" Michelin tires from the Porsche dealer and got N-rated Pilot Sports. Nowhere on the sidewalls does it say "RIB", but from the tread comparison with the pictures on Tirerack, that is what they are.

If it had N1 on side, then there should be nothing wrong ! I never use any N-rated tire on mine, and it's fine !

The PS2 designation is pretty small, perhaps you just aren't seeing it? Here is a picture from one of mine...

I don't know what the RIB designator looks like, I don't have any of those.

No "RIB" on my PS Ribs. I just checked carefully again, but they are N2 spec and not N1's as jkb's.
