Proper size from 17 to 18"

Proper size from 17 to 18"
Hi, can someone please tell me what will be the specs that I should be looking @. My car's a 964TL
Factory specs for my 17" are
Front 205/50/17
Rear 255/40/17
It's running on 18" turbo wheels now but what should be the correct sizes?
It's running on 225 fronts & 285 rear. Mine steering is a little heavy & I wonder if 215 makes any diff & if I should downsize my rears to 265 for better pickup?

Front 225/40/18 This size is almost perfect.
Back 285/30/18 This size is already slighty smaller diameter than your current 255/40's.
