Default Michelin Pilot AS (All Season)??

Does anybody have experience with these that they would like to share?

I am considering them for a 993 w/ 17" 205/50's front and 255/40's for rear. I am looking for solid perf. in fall, spring & summer. I don't expect to drive the car in the snow (my audi w/Dunlop M2's is good for that), but I do want to drive the car on occasion in winter.

I have Michelin stock PS2's and they are good for everything but winter. I would have thought the All season just gives you snow and below (just above) freezing performance.

Lucky you. Tire Rack recently published their September '07 test results of 4 Ultra High Performance All Season tires (an oxymoron, if I've every seen one). In order of overall finish (combined road and track results), the Michelin was 3rd. First was the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S, 2nd was the Goodyear Eagle F1, and 4th was the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 AS. The Bridgestone was top rated not long ago, but the tire wars continue. All of these tires were pretty close in the overall results, but they differ in their specific strengths and weaknesses, so one should pick on the basis of what kinds of compromises one prefers.

Good feedback. I'll check out the tirerack site and let you what I end up with.

Thanks

I got my new issue (Nov '07) of Consumer Reports (CR) yesterday, and their ranking of all-season UHP radials differs from the Tire Rack's. CR ranks the Michelin A/S 7th of 15 tested. Their top 3 were the Falken Ziex ZE-912, the Nitto Neo Gen ZR (the cheapest of the top 7 by far), and the Yoko Advan S4. They also tested 21 summer UHP tires, and ranked the Michelin PS2 first.

These came on my car - I think the exact same size in fact. Good tire. Great in the rain (well when we get rain here in TX). No snow, sorry. Not much road noise. Overall, a great tire - but kinda pricey.

I even took them to the track for about 6 months. Good enough to push me from green to blue. But, honestly, terrible track tires. Really greasy when hot. I ended up getting EVS100 for a tweener tire. These are just as good for summer and rain, but MUCH better on the track. A little more noise, maybe due to tread pattern.

My old Pilot A/S are sitting in the garage as I can't bear to toss them...

The Pilot Sport AS was one of the first true ultra high performance all season tires released to the market and still holds the benchmark as being one of the best. The extra siping definitely accounts for better wet weather traction, and the rubber compound holds it's own in colder temperatures. Even as other tires continue to be released to the market, these are still among the best.

Now if they could just get the price down a bit......

Not planning to drive it in the snow, but I do plan on getting out a little in the colder temps and was worried the my SportConti2 or normal Mich PS2's would not be best. Should really worry 'bout these tires in cold temps? Don't want to spebd the $ of on the Mich PS A/S if I don't have too.

If the temps dip below about 45, the Pilot Sport A/S will grip MUCH better than any summer tire will.

I just had a set of these installed on Friday. Since it rains a lot up here in the NW during the winter time, I wanted something that would allow me to continue to drive my car. We also get some cold days where I would not want my summer tires on my car.

I had some people telling me to just put the car up for the winter. What's the fun in that? I bought an extra set of wheels and put the new tires on. Now wet and cold days can be fun too.
