Default Why are my brand new tires from tire rack 3 yrs old?

I just put on a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's on my 968 that my Porsche shop purchased from Tire Rack. The fronts manufacture date was 2005 and the rears was 2004.

I'm not happy and neither is the shop that ordered them...

Anyone have an explanation for this?

I would call the tire rack and ask. I don't think they guarantee the date of manufacture when you order.

I used to work at a tire reclamation store and they purchased OA tires. overage tires were tires that were in the show room for a year, they can NOT be sold as new. All the serial numbers had to be removed because the manufacturer would not warranty them at all the tire shop had to make good on them if anything happened. I would return them as soon as possible or ask about thier OA policy. You my friend have half life tires allready, they will allready show signs of dry rot. Check them out real good. Maybe things have changed since I worked in that field, 25yrs ago.....

Ron - Yes

Update - Jones Autowerks talked to Tire Rack. They explained that since the tires are made in Germany it takes a long while to get here, and they don't sell many of that size. The rears were made in the 42nd week of 2004 and the fronts on the 13th week of 2005. Tire rack said that's the newest ones Goodyear is handing out.

Ron - that RUF cd was awesome! I think we'll play it one day at a meeting...

We have constant PO's to Goodyear on this tire, and Goodyear fills them as fast as they decide to. What we get is at their mercy. We guarantee them to be the freshest available. In this case, what we sold you was the freshest of what we got from them. We regurally get tires in from all 20 of our tire vendors that are up to 2 years old by the time we get them. Curing and inventory at the manufacturing facility sometimes takes this long.

Rubber compounding and preservatives have come a LONG way, even in the last 5 years. While 3 years old is on the "older" side of average, as stated in this tech reveiw 6-10 years is the expected lifespan of most tires today. Incidently, Goodyears are among the better of them for lifespan. I would not worry about them, really.

I hope this helps. If not contact our customer service dept. at ext. 360.
