Default 18" Mille Miglia Turbo Twists: Tires too skinny?

Hey guys,

I posted a similar post on the 928 forum, but am not getting much response.

I have some nice 18" Mille Miglia Turbo Twist wheels on my '85 928 S. They look great, but the fronts stick out quite a bit with the offsets, and the tires seem too skinny for the wheels. Unfortunatly, I don't have much more room to fit bigger tires up front.

18" Mille Miglia Turbo Twists
Ft: 18 x 8 1/2", offset of 52: 225/40 ZR18
RR: 18 x 10", offset of 65: 265/35 ZR18

A couple of pics:

I also just scored some nice 17" factory Cup 1's and I'm considering mounting them up, and I'm wondering if they wouldn't be a better fit, and allow wider, more normal looking tires.

17" Factory Cup 2's (from a '97 993)
Ft: 17 x 7 ET 55 - 993.362124.00
RR: 17 x 9 ET 55 - 993.362128.00

Here's a pic of one of the Cup 2's:

Now here's where the controversy comes in. Both wheels sets are in roughly the same condition, with both needing some light sanding and a spray (or powder coating).

18" Pro's: Look awesome on the car. Fill out the wheel wells nicely. Wider then the Cup 2's. Already installed with good Pirelli P7000's tires on them.

18" Cons: front 8.5" wheels stick out quite a bit with the 52 mm offset. And the tires look like they are almost too small for the wheel. Also the 18's have got to be quite a bit heavier then the Cup 2's. I haven't wieghed them, but the Cup 2's are so light its unbelievable.

17" Pros: Look awesome on the car. They are light as hell! Holy cow, they are light! They MAY fit up front better and allow a more "normal" tire size up there (a tire that doesn't look too small for the wheel).

17" Cons: They MAY not fill up the wheel wells as nicely as the 18's. No tires included (not a biggie, but it is a factor - especially since I can't mount them up to compare). Overall, they are not as wide as the 18's, so I would give up a bit of look and perhaps a tiny bit of grip there (?).

So, any thoughts on which wheel set to go with?

Does anyone have the same size 17's on an '85 928S? If so, what size tires are you running? How do they fill out the wheel wells? And how about some pics? Post em if you got em.

How about the 18's? Is anyone running that same size? If so, same deal, what size tires are you running, and post any pics if you got em.

Thanks,

Ed

The cups are going to fit the front better, and 225 is the correct width for that rim. As for filling out the wheelwells, it seems you are over in the front. You can always spacer out the rear rims to fill the wheel openings with no problems.
