Different tires on front and back on 996 turbo
Just blew a tire yesterday, pretty happy i wasn't doing 250 when it happend.
It turned out that the car (996 Turbo 04) seems to have been calibrated wrong at the back, because on both the tires on the back there was very hard use on the inside of both tires.
The tires on the car is Bridgestone Potenze s-02a 225/40zr 18
I wonder if it's possible to have a different set of tires on the backwheels or do i have to have them all the same since it's a 4 wheeldrive?
If not would i be able to use Potenze s-03 on the backwheel tires alone?
Or does the tires suck and i should change all together?
And is POTENZA RE050 a option?
Car has gone around 14000 miles (Bought in may 04, location sweden)
(Also is there anyway the costs can be reduced via insurance/guarantee etc?)

Different Tire Types
I don't think that you will run into issues on having different tire types on your 996 turbo as long as they are good quality. Typically the 993 and 996 rear tires last about 1/2 as long as the fronts. I rode with Bridgestone S-02s on the front and Michelin Pilot Sports on the rear of my 993tt for some time. Now I have Michelin Pilots Sports on the front and Michelin Pilot Sport 2 on the rear. The newer series of tire seem to be much better. I have typically gotten about 30000 km. on a rear set of tires and 60000 on the front.

Most would recommend against having two different brands/compounds front and rear. Replace all four if you can't find S02a's for the rear. Also, because of the rear camber, generally, all 911's will wear on the inside.

The first major issue is to confirm that the rolling diameters are the same. PSM
can go nutsy if they aren't, and also the viscous torque unit will be under
stress. Other than that, you're probably as OK as the condition of the tires.
