Nitto brand tires?
Here's the scoop: I currently have Toyo proxes t1s on my 95 993, new I might add. The left rear came up flat the other day. Nail in the inner side wall. The local tire guy says we can patch it but not a great place to patch so I decide to replace the tire. Apparently, the 255 40 ZR17 from Toyo is on nationwide back order he tells me after waiting a week. So the tire dealer offers 2 Nittos for about $50 more than what it would cost me to put one of the Toyos on. The backorder wait is a minimun 3 weeks. Any ideas?

Porsche recommends the same brand of tire on all 4 wheels, for consistency in handling. Either wait it out for the Toyo at that dealer, call around to find another Toyo dealer who might have one in stock, or replace all 4 with another brand. FWIW, Nitto isn't a brand you typically hear being fitted to Porsches.

Always use the same brand on all 4 wheels. You can get away with different models on each axle if you have too, but it will negatively impact handling (and probably ride too) as no two tire models have the exact same characteristics. To give an extreme example, I knew someone with a 928 once that put some different model tires on the rear than in the front, and promptly spun the car going around a corner.
