OZ Alleggerita vs Porsche OEM wheels
Hi all,
I'm starting to look at getting dedicated track wheels for DE. I have been quoted some OZ Alleggerita wheels and now have come across some lightly used Porsche OEM wheels that are cheaper. OZ are 1.5 times the price.
So I'm wondering if there are any pros or cons of going OEM vs OZ.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Looks like size always matters
Alright Beantown, here goes ...
Wheels are for my 2011 911 GTS (wide body) which I have been using with stock 19 inch wheels and tires.
OZ Alleggerita proposal from a reputable supplier is :
Lightly used OEM wheels are from a 2012 911 Targa 4 (wide body)
I don't think fitment is a problem with either OZ or used OEM I found.
Now Rennlist folks say lighter weight is supposed to be a good thing for handling and acceleration.
So will those 16 lbs make a difference ?
Any other pros and cons of OEM vs OZ ?
Thanks
Joe

- Stock tires are 235-35-19 front and 305-30-19 rear
- Don't have exact wheel size but my guestimate is 8 or 8.5 x 19 front and 11 x 19 rear.
- No idea what offset they are nor their weight
OZ Alleggerita proposal from a reputable supplier is :
- Front : 235-40-18 tire on 8.5 x 18 ET 53 wheel
- Rear : 305-35-18 tire on 11 x 18 ET 45 wheel
- Wheel weights are 17 lbs front and 21 lbs rear
Lightly used OEM wheels are from a 2012 911 Targa 4 (wide body)
- Front : 235-40-18 winter tire on 8 x 18 ET 57 wheel
- Rear : 295-35-18 winter tire on 11 x 18 ET 51 wheel
- Wheel weights from the little info I have been able to find are approx 4 lbs each heavier than OZs
- winter wheel will obviously not be used on track
I don't think fitment is a problem with either OZ or used OEM I found.

Thanks blomman.
So savings 16lbs (7.3kg) in unsprung weight would be like saving 160 lbs (73kg) or almost 5% of car's weight.
That looks quite significant. Can anyone confirm?
Better yet, any ideas on how that may translate on track?

Those wheels sizes are fairly close. For your car a 8.5" front wheel will be better than 8.0". And lighter wheels (less unsprung weight) makes a difference too. OZ Allegerita wheels have been a very popular and reliable option for our cars. Only you can decide if they're worth the difference in price. That will depend on your budget and the standard of performance you're looking for.

I finally went with the 18" OEM wheels. The weight saving is midway between OZ and my current wheels.
Also checked with tire retailer, and the wheel size is good for the tire size I will be using.
Thank you for you answers

Oz has much better offset for wider track.
