Default Road Trip Advice - Vancouver BC to San Francisco CA.

Hey everyone,

Just about had my GT4 for about a year now, and am looking to put on some kms with a roadtrip down to San Francisco. My current plan is to take 5 days, with the following route in mind:

Day 1 - Kinnewick, WA
Day 2 - Bend, OR (with a stop at Crater Lake)
Day 3 - Ashland, OR
Day 4 - Eureka, CA
Day 5 - San Francisco, CA

Any tips on this route? Any must-see destinations along the way? Please let me know!

I also need to plan the route back up from SF, but I may have to just take I5 northbound since time is limited.

Thanks in advance!

Just take 101 and 1 the whole way every day find a road that loops from the coast inland over the hills and back to the coast. The drive above fort Bragg and to sf is really nice.

Order Butler Motorcycle maps. They have highlighted roads that are most desirable in terms of twistiness and scenery. I used these for Vanc to Monterey last yr (Rennsport). Over Rainier, out to St Helens, out to coast, back across to Yosemite... 6 days down. Came home up 101. 6000km round trip. Was great!

Have fun!

Cheers

I have done the trip a few times (Seattle to San Francisco via 1/101), it is a fantastic drive.

Here are a couple places that stood out to me.
- Scoma's (Sausalito, CA). Great seafood with a nice view.
- Cannery Pier Hotel (Astoria, OR)
- Humboldt Redwoods (NorCal)
- Snorkeling over leopard sharks (LaJolla, Ca)
- The Beach Comber Cafe (Crystal Cove/OC, ca)
- Las Brisas (Laguna Beach, CA)
- Neptunes Net (Malibu, CA) *Best experienced after racing a Ferrari 360, but prior to attending race wars.
- 17 Mile Drive (Monterey, CA)
- GMG Racing (Santa Ana, CA) *Feel free to stop by!

There is a lot more, but hopefully this helps you with some ideas.

If you have a bunch of time, I wouldn't pick I5 for most of Oregon. It's pretty painful with the slow drivers, straight freeway and lack of scenery. Once you get into Oregon, either go west or east of I5. For example, cut through the Columbia Gorge via 84 east and then head south to the east side of the Cascades to Bend. The west option via 99 will provide wine country along the way to the beach via Lincoln City. Going 26 or 30 west to Astoria will actually drive you farther north instead of south.

Safe travels!

This guy knows what's up. Great drive, btw, did it myself a few years back.

For this day, try 5 -> 96 -> 299. Tons of turns, and you will have it all to yourself! And if you have extra time, at the 96/299 junction, go west, then loop back to Eureka via 3 and 36.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I took a lot of backroads, and I must say that my favorite stretch is Highway 821 between Ellensburg and Yakima. So many turns, and amazing canyon views.

Once I got the SF, I had to take a picture with their famous landmark.
