Default Track Days and PCA Question

Hello, I have some questions from the perspective as a beginner and as someone who just bought their first Porsche and would appreciate some input from experienced owners. I was hoping to track my car and do some drivers education in the next coming months, but I am sort of at a loss of where to start. I joined the PCA and looked at the events and it looks like there are plenty on the east coast but none on the west coast. I checked the golden gate region PCA website and there were no events listed besides a monthly dinner/meetup. I have a little on track experience (did a 3 day school at Laguna in the spring of 2021) but I figure I need to do some DE with the PCA in order to learn more, get comfortable with my car, and get some stamp of approval. I know I will need a sign off on the car and some basic gear like a helmet - I can handle those aspects easily.

This is a sort of open ended question for my Californians - where do I start?

It’s only Jan 11th, they’ll get their 2022 schedule out in due course. It’s managed through…

Advice is if you’re new start with pca before the other groups. You’ll get better instruction. Ggr is a well run track group. Yes there are rules and yes they can be somewhat rigid, but the learning is valuable. Hooked on driving would be second. Once comfortable the other groups are ok. I felt hod was well run too. Speedsf…. Mixed experience.

I've done both Hooked on Driving and PCA... at least at the time I was tracking regularly, I found Hooked on Driving pricier but better structured for beginners. They nail all the basics - stuff like having rental helmets and stick on numbers available, PA announcements to tell you where to go/be, informative classes in between runs, and a major focus on safety. Once you graduate out of the beginner group though PCA is probably a much better value. Both organizations seem to run nothing but Porsches

Depending on your budget, I strongly recommend Sears Point Racing Experience. The 3 day performance driving series was incredible if you want focused instruction. Learning the same via PCA or HOD will take longer imo.

Welcome. I’ve tracked with most (I’m hesitant to say all because there may be 1-2 i missed) HPDE groups. I recommend HOD, Golden Gate Lotus, Diablo Porsche, Golden Gate Porsche and NCRC. All I mentioned have good novice coaching. I prefer HOD coaching. Several coaches do both HOD and Porsche.

if you are looking for track days check out https://www.motorsportreg.com/ for fairly comprehensive list of events.
