On a brilliant sunny Saturday under the auspices of our beloved leader Mike Holtzclaw, local and Regional Officials and an impressive showing of fellow Porsche owners, we commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Alaska Chapter of the PCA.
I believe 24 cars attended with a mix of 911s, 914s a 928S, a 991 turbo a 992, a couple of Boxsters, a Cayman a Cayenne and a Macan rounded up the attendees hailing from Fairbanks (~315 miles distant to Wasilla site of the event), Palmer, and Anchorage and a wonderful afternoon and dinner was enjoyed by all. In anticipation of a mention in an upcoming edition of the Panorama magazine, here's an appetizer.
It was great seeing all of you distant Porsche owners again (been a year since the Valdez drive). Thank you all for coming, to Mike our President and local organizing committee, the distinguished regional PCA officials for making it happen!
I will add that despite an invitation being proffered to the dealer by the President of the local chapter, not a single person from the dealership showed up. That is essentially the kind of dealership we have here in Alaska.
Regional PCA officers made the trip from Nevada, some of us drove 700 miles, these folks didn't even bother driving 48 miles. This needs to be brought to Kjell Gruner's and Kendall Corporate attention. A disgrace.
I will add that despite an invitation being proffered to the dealer by the President of the local chapter, not a single person from the dealership showed up.
If your dealership is a part of the Auto-Nation Chain, that'd explain it. We have two in our area. They (Irvine and Newport Beach) are specifically forbidden by their corporate office from participating with PCA groups. Not sure why, but (unfortunately) the folks locally, sure do adhere to the Mother Ship's rules.
I bought one car there - the wife's 2020 Macan S; never again. As to their reputation, ask around and certainly few up here in Fairbanks care for those folks. And I thought Morrison their predecessor was bad... But not bothering to attend a 50th...
Just a thought. Any chance they knew you would be there . . . . . . . and that just maybe, possibly, might in some way, have entered into their decision making process? LOL
Or maybe all of the folks from Fairbanks likely to attend?
Nah, as I mentioned the invitation was offered by the Chapter President to the GM who said he was going to be out of town. It was then passed on to someone else (probably the SM or someone) and I guess no one felt it was worth the effort. What's relevant in this story is the rot comes from the top. If it was my shop and I couldn't attend, I would have mandated a presence (with balloons, stickers and flags) to show support for the brand and the membership that pays their salaries.
But what you have to realize is that when I had to take the Macan in for an electrical issue I asked them ahead of time when I came to pick the car up, to enable what the sales team had forgotten to do when I bought the car. I informed them given it was in winter and I had a long drive that I was flying in and going to be at the dealership at 8:30. I was told the "Porsche Ambassador" doesn't come in until 10 but I'm welcome to wait. Says it all right ?
A nice selection: 928S, Cayenne, 914 ,991 Turbo and 992. While in the back row were some air cooled gems like a 911SC ... A 996 in front of the 928S The three of us who drove down from Fairbanks If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes... Jim just wouldn't let me by...
