Default Do torsion axles wear out?

14 year old Renegade aluminum enclosed with 3500lb axles. When loaded only about 1-1/4" of travel between top of tire and inner fender well. Total weight fully loaded around 6,100 lbs.

What was it before you changed tires? Are the new tires the same size?

Same size tires. Never noticed the clearance as the aluminum skirt hid the clearance. I had to remove the skirt to replace it as the tire destroyed it when it let go.

Ordered 2 new complete axles with brakes direct from Dexter today. Other than rusty bolt removal shouldn't be too bad a job.

Update. New axles installed and now have 3" clearance at the top. Dexter warranties new axles for 10 years and yes, they do wear out if you have limited vertical travel. Total for 2 new axles complete with brakes $1,050 delivered.

How where the axles to replace? How did you align them?

Hi Matt, two bolts at each end that attach to the frame rail. Alignment was fairly easy (found the procedure with a google search) and the hardest part was rolling the old ones out and the new ones under the trailer while up on jack stands.
