Default MB GL vs Yukon/Suburban?

Hello folks,
Getting the itch to change my 2010 ML550 which has served me very well as a DD and open Trailex tow vehicle.

There are not many SUVS that tow over +/- 7500lbs so options are boiling down to the GL or the YukonXL. Pricing on these relatively close although the Benz more expensive.

I think the GL will age better in both looks and quality in the long run, but I'm itching for something different.

Thoughts, experience or advice.?

The GL is the nicer car, but you get lower running costs with the Yukon and the Denali version has the corvette v8.

If the GL is not much more, that's probably the direction I would go with, like you said it will age better and while the interior of the Yukon has come a long way it's not as nice as the GL.

Ae you considering the GLE (like your ML) or GLS (like the old GL)?

The new (2015+) GM platforms are terrific! After three previous generation 'Burbans ('07, '11, '13), I bought a '16 Tahoe and am very pleased. I tow a 20' steel chassis Pace and it's darned good. The interior appointments and visibility are very good, no problems except occasional rough shifts. INCREDIBLE mileage over my old platforms. The GL is cool, but I doubt it will age well, especially service costs.

Think the current one is only a couple years old, so a few more years..?
Current one looks like a nice machine, 3.5TT V6, IRS, etc..

Peter this is very interesting. I have an 11 1500 Suburban and am towing an ATC 24 foot enclosed. Probably about 7500 total. I really like Suburbans but was resigned to switching to a 3/4 ton diesel pickup since burbans are no longer available with diesel. Are you saying I should look into the new ones?

Looking closely at a 2016 Yukon Denali with dealer....
6.2L engine rocks. Very quiet and nice riding truck.

Offered 9% off msrp and got a stare.
Told the guy that we are only a few weeks from being able to order a 2017.

Anyone know what a decent discount off MSRP would be?

I've got a 2010 Expedition EL that I'm very happy with. Nearly 100K on the clock, and it's still solid. This one has the "perfected" 5.4 Triton V8, but is otherwise very similar to the current Expy. The EL gives it a lot more interior space and better trailer pulling stability. It is uncanny how comfortable it is. Without the trailer, the ride is extremely good and not "trucky" at all. Third and second row seats fold flat so it's a quick conversion from seating to hauling.

Without the trailer, it will get 19MPG at 70MPH, with my open trailer and race car (about 4500 lbs), it will get almost 13 MPG at 70MPH. Tow rating is about 9000 lbs with the heavy tow package.

It's hard to beat having the bed of a pickup truck to throw wheels, tires, greasy crap, ... in without having to worry about getting things dirty. With a featherlight or Trailex open a 1/2 ton crew can is hard to beat. For most any enclosed I'd want a 3/4 diesel. I'd think towing in a crosswind with an enclosed and an suv would be an adventure I'd rather not take.

TV ad in the US just showed "up to 12% off MSRP on a YD".
