Default Time to get new tires on my SUV tow vehicle--what to get? What to get?

Time to replace the tires on my '14 Touareg TDI R line, a high performance handling suspension, only 1 of 4 delivered to the US. I am currently running Pirelli Scorpion Verde 275/45R20's. I am debating between running those versus running Continental CrossContact LX Sport 275/45R20 110V's, not the 110H, which OE. I really like the Pirelli's, but if I can get better performance out of the Continetal's, I would buy those. My concern is how they each handle in the wet, especially while towing. Any suggestions welcomed. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

We run the Scorpion Verde's on our Q7. We are also in need of tires soon so I've been looking around at options. The Pirelli's have much higher rating than any Conti on Tire Rack including the CrossContact LX Sport. I'll be buying another set, as we have been extremely happy with them, especially in the wet.

Have you checked out Michelin’s Premier LTX? I ran them on my ‘12 ML350.

Another fan of the Michelin LTX, use them on the LX470 and very good in the dry or wet when towing.

OP, what do you tow (weight wise) with the Touareg and any issues with the rear sagging or with the wind pushing the trailer around?

Had the Michelin LTX on my F150. Still going strong after 60,000 miles when I sold it. Great ride for a truck too.

Did you guys have the Defender LTX or Premier LTX? The Defender is their truck tire whereas the Premier is their SUV tire.

I just ordered a set of the new Goodyear Assurance Weatherready from Tire Rack for my Explorer. They have a $100 Rebate now. And if you open a Goodyear account the rebate doubles to $200.

I'm towing about 6500 pounds, which is why I got the Touareg. I didn't have any issues until I put containers and empty fuel cans on the front. Then I had a tongue weight issue. We solved this by moving the race car back on the open trailer when towing. I have driven in all kinds of weather, without any issues, except on high bridges in extreme wind conditions. I do have to be careful about how much weight is in the Touareg (had to take out the easy-up and 2 ton jack as the rear was sagging when towing--and I was getting about 8 mpg, down from 20 mpg that was typical in my diesel vehicle.)

Michelin Defender LTX - on both a GMC 2500 and a Ford Expedition - quiet, good traction , all weather - long time Michelin tire user . . .
OP - - IIWM - I would get a bigger tow vehicle for a 6500 tow load . . . just sayin' . . . going to max tow capacity is a dangerous situation . . . IMHO of course . . .

Regards,

The Touareg can tow 7,000 lbs, so I’m within the margins. It’s basically a Cayenne, only less sticker shock. I had no issues towing my heavier 996 with 7 heavier wheels.

Touareg TDI is rated for 7,700. Same as the Cayenne Diesel.
My truck alone is heavier than this car/trailer combo but I have also driven this rig. The Touareg is quite benign and stable even in wind and "urgent braking".
When we travel together, I carry her 2 sets of wheels in my enclosed trailer - mostly because this dramatically reduces wind drag.
