Straps loosening up while towing

Didn't think of this. I've had some issues recently - on longer tows. Replaced straps as mine were pretty old and that helped. Realized I had more issues when coming home then going - this makes sense.

I have had straps loosen too and now I follow this procedure;
1. During initial loading, car is free to move, ie no handbrake and transmission in neutral. Straps very tight.
2. Secure handbrake (ensure brakes are cool)
3. After 20 min, pull over and check straps
4. Every two hours, stop and check straps. Stretch legs, get coffee, etc. Maybe extend this to 3 hours on longer trips. Since not using chains, nylon straps will always creep and load will shift during braking and acceleration. Therefore, always need to tighten regularly

update
update: The pull to and from pitt was way better, it was tight on arrival, after 5+ hours
only change was having the webbing on the spool 3-4 times before cranking, previously i was taking up most of the slack and cranking it down
it came off the 90 minute enduro and right onto the trailer for the ride home,
the tire pressure/heat theory is an interesting one
thanks all

If tires are hot then lose pressure as they cool the straps won't be as tight as they were initially.
As mentioned above ensure there is enough webbing wound around to bite into itself and remain tight.
