TRG Preview for VIR 400......
Danville, VA – October 1, 2004
The two Porsches of The Racer’s Group rolled into Virginia today hungry to close in on the GT driver’s and team championships. RJ Valentine, Chris Gleason and Ian James, co-drivers of the #66 F1 Air/Gleason Agency Porsche, sit just 21 points behind class leader Bill Auberlen with three races left in the season, with team owner Kevin Buckler 16 points further afield. The team is coming off an exceptional race in Homestead, as the two cars finished 1-2, the first visit to the top step of the podium for the talented bunch this season.
RJ Valentine said, “Things are really heating up for us right now. Our last race really set the stage for a big battle at VIR this weekend, and we’re feeling very much in a groove. Chris and I have made big strides in the car this season, and Ian continues to impress us with his speed and intelligence in the racecar. We’ve got three races left to close out the BMWs, and we’re going to give it our all.”
TRG will welcome Tom Nastasi back into the #67 Monster Cable/TRG Porsche at VIR, to drive with team owner Kevin Buckler. This will be Nastasi’s 2nd race of the 2004 season in a Porsche. Team owner Kevin Buckler was excited to welcome him back. “Tom and I, aside from being friends, are good for each other in the car. Neither of us make many mistakes, and we’re both consistently quick. I like our chances at this track. It’s a beautiful facility and a fun track to drive. We’ve got Barber coming up very shortly after the VIR race, so we’d like to continue our momentum forward from Homestead to give the BMWs a run for their money.”
The Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series races next at Virginia International Raceway on Sunday, October 3.
