3 months wait for a part
My wife and I purchased a 24 Tycan GTS with about 11000 miles on it last summer, it was our first EV and we love it. Unfortunately while I was driving the car one day in last October I was hit by a uninsured driver running red light. She did not even see the light and was driving at pretty fast speed, I had green light going forward, there were cars in front and back of me, and when I saw her car it was too late to do anything, her car ran right into the right side of the Taycan. All or almost all the airbags in front and back of the Taycan deployed. My first thought was the impact was not too bad considering the speed of collision, I felt ok. I know the Taycan's safty features have saved me. I did not suffer serious injury but some bruises, and althought I felt dizziness and headaches a few days later but I am alive thanks to the Taycan.
My insurance company treated the Taycan as totaled for the first few weeks after the accident, but when they found out the value of the car and repair cost, they changed mind and insisted on fixing it. I selected a Porsche authroized body shop that was recommended by my local Porsche dealer for repair. The body shop estimated the repair would take about two months. The repair went along ok in general and by the end of January the Taycan is almost ready but missing a headliner that need to be replaced. The body shop showed me the order to Porsche for the headliner, and told me that it was supposed to arrive in December at the body shop, however, there is no info on if there is inventory in Germany, or if it has been produced, and of course there is no tracking. The body shop said it could not get an answer from Porsche. I thought it is strange and not sure the delay was caused by Porsche or the body shop. I would love the get the car back as soon as possible, it is not a good feeling not knowing when the healiner will arrive. Is there anything I can do?

I had a similar issue with my '09 Cayenne S. My Indy was going to replace my headliner and ordered one from Porsche. Initially we were told it would take two months to receive. When two months passed, we were then told two weeks. This continued for another two months. My Indy then found a used headliner in great shape that he had his upholstery shop dye to match my interior color. Saved me $600 and looks great. (And my insurance covered it, since it was initially due to damage from my dog) We canceled our order with Porsche.
I was getting the sense that Porsche does not stock these, but merely passes any order received on to the supplier who manufactures them. I also don't think any supplier would maintain an inventory of old headliners, but *might* build an order of one (1) if they had line time available after filling all of Porsche's production orders.
I am very glad I went with the used headliner, and suspect I might still be waiting to hear from Porsche.

I was not given a choice by my insurance company to total the Taycan. I was told the insurance would always fix the car instead of total it if the repair cost is less than 70% of the car's market value, . My insurance company originally estimated the cost to repair my Taycan GTS at around $16000, so it is far from being totaled. I guess I could get $16000 and not fix the car, but not really a good choice is it? One choice I was given was to select the body shop, so I choose a Porsche authorized shop recommended by my local Porsche dealer. I thought that was the best way to go forward.
Now 3-4 months later, the majority of the repairs are done except for the replacement of headliner, the cost of repair has more than tripled the original estimate. It was a very frustrating experience dealing with my insurance company and repair. Not only the insurance initially grossly under-estimated the cost of repair, the repair took such a long time it is still not done, and I worry about there maybe other problems unresolved after the accident and may need further attention in the future. I do wish there were better route for me to take.
By the way, neither my insurance company nor any attorney I talked with would consider getting me the "diminished value" I suffered from the accident. I could ask/sue the driver who hit my car for it, but she has no money even for her car insurance so it would be a waste of time.
