Default BAKER/CHARLESTON PORSCHE FLOODED MY TAYCAN

They left the car outside with the windows down during a thunderstorm. The car sat with an inch of water covering the floor for about 12 hours. The door panels and seats soaked.

They offered me an insult of $1,000.00 in sales, service or merchandise to make up for this disaster. 5 days it took them to make this offer, in that time, no loaner, no car, nothing.

Stay away from these clowns.

800V Electric car + rain-soaked battery pack in chassis. I would not have taken the car home. They have insurance to cover damaged vehicles while at their location.

Finding a good (read nasty and vicious) attorney is ASAP.

"Stay away from these clowns" Glad you called out Porsche Charleston. For all the veneer of grand buildings, leather couches, Starbucks coffee, Porsche dealers are not better than:

The car is still there. I won't take it as it'll break the chain of custody. Porsche NA and progressive are involved now.

the sad part is that I buy a lot of cars and they're close by. Now I have to drive 2 hours to Hilton Head for my new cars.

Really sorry for their error! With the water soaking the floor for 12 hours, I would imagine that the wiring harness was also soaked, along with the possible damage to the batteries. Twelve years ago, I had a similar soaking event because of a hail storm that broke the panoramic sunroof on a 1,000 mile old 2012 BMW X3. The car was fixable, but Chubb insurance totaled it because of the water soaking the wiring harness in the floor. Said their experience had been that when that happens, lots of issues appear and may not show up until later down the road. They had us reorder the exact same 2013 X3. So, we ended up with a brand new, one year newer identical (though slightly more expensive) vehicle.

I’d imagine the hi voltage battery would be sealed and not damaged, but the interior and wiring harnesses all need replacing. With water damage like that hard to say. You should get a new car unless they want to give you a 10 year transferable warranty after repair.

This would only happen if OP gets a vicious attorney on his side. Sue for loss of use and emotional damage too.

About OP getting a vicious attorney on his side, ask me how I know. For all the impeccable "glitter and polish" of Porsche, hiring rottweilers is their game plan too.

**** happens, the key is always how someone responds to it. Sounds like this dealer made a bad decision in response. Idiots.

Typically you'd work with your insurance. The shop will have a shopkeepers liability policy that will get subrogated. Shop should fix/repair car to as provided state and cover any of your out of pocket costs. Keep in mind this is fresh water, and if dried further issues are likely minimal aside electrical and possible seat damage. Salt water is totally destructive... So likely the car is fixed, not replaced, and it will be fine.

I'd simply let them know they have an easy choice to make: they can make this easy and do the right thing or you get an attorney and it'll cost them a lot more.

**** happens, it's bad now but if they are already handling it what's the problem?
You'd rather try and deal with a new dealership that if they screw up WON'T! do anything?
If they handle it properly, it sucks but oh well. It's a replaceable car if worse comes to worse

Given the amount of electronics on and near the floor, I would not ever drive that car again. Your dealer now owns it. I had a perfectly running Ford Explorer that was flooded with a foot of water from Sandy and I put a claim in for a new battery. The insurance company totaled the car. Things go wrong long after a car is flooded - it can take years for connectors to corrode. Do you want to be driving 80mph down the highway and have an airbag go off?

The problem as I see it is the dealer is NOT handling it! Offering $1k five days after the fact when the damage could very well be in the 10’s of thousands sure sounds like a cover my butt excuse. Definitely get a lawyer and make sure whatever is decided is to the benefit of you. I would consider a full 10 year no deductible warranty on all electronics including anything having to do with the big battery or if they want to replace the vehicle with one you agree to.
