it happens, the unit was probably not functioning properly, did you try an adjacent charger?

You could try. Except there are too many variables to predict near full capacity. Including the local electrical grid.
Moving the "three inches from the ground" Taycan is herculean...I spend more than fifteen minutes going from one charger to another. Then I give up.

Today, I tanked up my other ride, a Cayenne. I understand the hesitation to to go EV.

I was trying this same charger out for a 3rd time since it is close to where I run errands.

Unfortunately I have never charged at this bank of chargers at a speed greater than 100kw..

I'm charging up today at 130kw. At a 150kw charger.

The problem is that EA is unreliable which can make road trip a pain.

I guess the question I'm asking is what can we as a community do to improve reliability.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

email & phone - Electrify America CEO Giovanni Palazzo. I don't have the email address. I'm sure a super sleuth on this forum can find this information and share it with us.

EA was tasked with installing the chargers. Not maintaining them, apparently.

Ditto all the Infrastructure Improvement grants. They take the money and run. Zero accountability.

Most customers just grin and bear it. I am just as guilty.

Use the PlugShare app. Report your charger experiences so travelers can research and know which ones to avoid.

Also, shaming EA on there does get results as they seem to monitor the reports there and sometimes respond.

use an ICE for long trips. I really enjoy my BEV daily driver, but I only use my ICE for long trips.

I had a few minor bumps:

  • Once I had to wait in line for a charger, adding overhead to the stop.
  • At one station (Flagstaff) only a single pump worked.
  • At Albuquerque the pumps were heavily throttled and got nowhere near desirable speeds.
  • Multiple times the desirable 350kW pumps were blocked/used by Mustang Mach-E's which max out at 150kW, which was frustrating.
  • Sometimes the parking curbs were too far back, the cable too short, or both.
On the positive notes:
  • I paid $0 to EA for the entire trip
  • I never had to charge > 30 mins, even on slower chargers
  • Plug-and-charge worked 100% of the time.
Like the OP in the thread, I wondered why we don't get shelter like seemingly all gas pumps do:

I only found this at one charger in Needles, CA.

Thanks for posting up. I'm gonna be driving my Taycan from SoCal to Vegas and back so I'm curious if the chargers at Barstow and Baker were properly working for you.

It looks like both went well. Bakersfield I had a Mustang Block-E hogging the 350kW, I had to do fancy parking to get to the other one which added some stop overhead.

Door to door my Las Vegas home is about 280 miles from my Orange County home and the Barstow EA station is 120 miles from the Orange County home and then there are a few EA stations in Las Vegas 10-15 miles from my Las Vegas home so I'll just need 150 miles worth of power to get to the Las Vegas EA stations.

Glad you asked!

It is an iOS app I am building called Chargey. It will track your road trips as well as home/DC charge costs around town.
If you use a Wallbox charger it will automatically import your home charges in the background.

If you're interested shoot me an email at support@stutsmansoft.com and I will let you know when it's ready for beta.

Should be within a few weeks.
