Default 2020 Taycan Turbo purchase? Stay away?

Hi Everyone,

I've had numerous Porsches but never an EV. Currently looking at a 2020 Taycan Turbo with about 10,000 miles and a CPO. I think I heard that 2020 was a bad year for them but I'm not sure if that was for the turbo or other EV models.
Any suggestions to stay away from the 2020 Turbo or no issues with it?

Thanks,

Walt

With the price of used being what it is today, why not just order a ‘23 and wait?

pros:
- more long term value
- full warranty
- 3 years newer with less bugs and updated PCM
- build exactly as you want
- zero wear and tear
- 3 years free charging

cons:
- wait time
- potential price increases (pending wait)

You could always order one and then if/when the used car market returns to reality (looking like soon due to the crumbling economy + inflation) you could always give up the order and buy a good used car for a great deal.

Waiting for a ‘23 is an idea but I was looking more for feedback on the ‘20.
If I can get it for $23K under the original sticker that would seem to be a pretty good deal. I’m looking at $140K and it is a CPO. I could do a CPO +1 and that would take me out to 2026.

I have owned mine for 15 months, 12,000 miles. No real issues other than a bit of a rattling noise on passenger side B pillar over rough roads. PCM not the fastest to load, but not sure how it compares to newer versions. Rarely PCM states some function is not available upon startup, but suspect software issue. It clears with next startup.

Seems like a decent deal as that's within a few thousand of where I've seen used 4S's lately. The new cars have barely changed and for the non-Porsche obsessed, the changes are imperceptible.

Edit: Your Spyder needs a BMC air filter ASAP ;-P

I think the rumor of 2020's being more problematic is just that.

Us 2020 owners had to live through a few issues that have all been resolved via software updates, but it's largely the same car that the factory is building today. There have been revisions to major components, but this is typical of any car throughout it's lifecycle, and I doubt anybody outside the walls of Porsche can quantify a difference.

You could get into a very well optioned 4S or a GTS for that $. Built to your spec. Something to consider...... My order took ~7 weeks from order to delivery. (2021)

Taycan is whole new bailiwick for Porsche. 2020 ≅ Lemon (IMHO)

Even a new Tesla, with 10 years experience (Roadster-2005 Model S -2010) has glitches.

My 2020 Taycan 4S was gorgeous, and 100% fun. But niggling problems, and weeks at time in the shop were a distraction.

In response to this post, I know there will be chorus of flames: "my 2020 is perfect"

that was then, now build to order can be 6+months. I was just at the dealership and if I was ready to place an order, a 4s is 3-6 months, a gts, 8-12 months

I'm still quoted 3 months today. I was quoted 3 months then as well.

We've put 14,000 kms on our 2020 Turbo, and it has not had a single issue. When it's clean, it still looks brand new. Generally the teething problems with early model years get resolved with software updates. The physical build quality of the Taycan is better than any car I've owned. No squeaks or rattles of any kind, and all the materials you touch feel expensive.

As others have indicated, what I would struggle with is the prices on the used market. If you can wait, a lot of the frothiness in the car market will likely settle down.

I had a really good deal on a 2020 Turbo S a couple months back. Don't come at me, folks, but it was largely due to the (useful, thoughtful) comments I received from members of this community that I decided to wait. Placed a deposit in March, and my order is now accepted with a build date of September. If you can wait 6-7 months, I would wait it out.

I have a 2020 Turbo - yes, we had some issues with them but they are all figured out and has been rock solid. With 10,000 miles everything should be sorted out and you have the CPO for peace of mind. It's the best car I've ever owned and I will keep one ICE car in my fleet, my newer cars will be EV.

Having owned one since brand new to about 5,000 miles - I'd do it all over again. I've also had the host of issues: cracked rear glass, couple days for full software upgrade/recall, couple more recalls, broken sun visor clip. I knew going into it what I was getting - I've gotten nice loaners and fully taken care of. Since everything was fixed, I haven't been back to the shop and my next item I'll need are new tires and aftermarket wheels!
