Default 2023 Taycan

Rumored to have a fresh up in '23. Anyone have rumors, my only concern is they increase the mileage via a new battery. What do you see as real mileage range in current cars.

The 2023 etron is supposed to have a range of 300 EPA miles, so who knows...

Longer range means longer charging times

Do not find more than 200 miles a day necessary

look at the specs (and pricing) for the recently announced GM EV lineup for 2023-24. Current Taycan config will look quite obsolete by comparison.

I haven’t seen any such rumors. Historically Porsche takes 5 years to do a power train bump. Who knows with the rapidly changing bev market.

Have a 2022 Cross Toursimo 4 set to arrive in late March and I've been hesitant to buy EV for this reason - anticipated rapid innovation in battery technology that may impact future resale values. I believe Porsche has to have plans to upgrade range (via software and hardware changes) in the future. They won't let the resale values sink on their flagship EV as its bad for the brand. After talking to Porsche techs its fairly easy to replace batteries and it's been baked into the design. We shall see.

The EV technology changes rapidly so if you keep on waiting for the next gen to come out then you'll never get a car. Unless the version that is available now is so terrible, you should just get it and enjoy it. Life is too short, and who knows if you're still going to be around when the next version is out

Longer range only means longer charging time if the longer range is from a larger battery. But that's not always the case. Tesla has been able to increase range via software updates, as has Ford (I think?) and definitely Polestar as well. It's all about making the motors / battery / inverter more efficient. You can do a lot with an OTA software change.

Also, if you only need 200 miles of range, just charge for that. You don't need to charge for more range than you need.

There are no game changing battery technologies close enough to commercialization to have a substantial effect on power density.

At some point, Porsche may see enough data to feel comfortable moving to a Tesla- or Lucid- similar utilization of the voltage/power available in a cell, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Porsche isn't behaving like a startup and new EV companies aren't behaving like legacy car manufacturers with conservative warranty constraints. You would have felt like big changes were coming more so in 2014 and my friends and relatives are still driving their P90Ds and i3s eight years later.

I'm confident a purchase today will still compete admirably in ten years.

I agree -- I've been sitting on the sidelines for years and battery technology has barely budged -- from 275 to 390 on Tesla. Most of what I hear is that the Taycan is good for ~250-275, actual miles, similar to the Tesla Placid actual milage (someone please correct me if I've got this way wrong). I've scoped EA fast chargers where I drive, plus nighttime charging at home and it will work, I think. I'm taking the plunge with a GTS. I can't wait!

I do think battery technology needs to get better for general acceptance. I see a ton of folks who are fine with 200 miles. That's fine for around town or for a second car. But for general acceptance of the technology, I think they got to get to 400 miles actual, real-world miles. I mean would any of you buy a gas-powered SUV with a 9-gallon fuel tank?

most are getting more range out of the battery by running the battery closer to full and empty....Tesla just did over the air updates, same battery more usable charge

Porsche seems to be more conservative in how much of the battery you can use

Not all of it has been by unlocking more battery. it's been both.

I only count on EVs from all manufacturers for 5 yrs tops. Taycan is no exception. I had Tesla Model X since new from 2017. The first 2yrs was the honeymoon period. I had no complaints whatsoever till the motors, the management system, the battery size, the efficiency, the charging capability, and the degradation popped my bubble from all manufacturers including Tesla. To OP, even Porsche comes out with a new battery that could do 30 miles more, it really won't mean much. What needs to be changed is the lifestyle (if you are not an EV owner now).

I agree the battery itself had not been evolved largely but all I mentioned above have.
