Default Home charging and app issues

Hi guys,

a family member bought a new taycan cross turismo 4s, and I love it… but I also have to play tech support. Running into 2 issues:

first, when the car is plugged in, the app does not show if it is charging (or going to charge that night). So we have to go out to the garage to check. Shouldn’t the app always read whether or not the car is charging or will be charging?

second, we have set the profile/timer of the car to charge before 6am to a max of 85%. However, some evenings it doesn’t charge. I can’t find any minimum requirement, so I’d think even if it is at 80%, it should be charging up to 85%. But there have been a few evening where it just doesn’t charge.

any thoughts? Searching for these answers is tough, as there seems to be a ton of app issues

if you want software that works - well…perhaps another brand.

all that you say is true…there is a lot of distance to cover before Porsche has this mastered.

It is strange how some owners have glitches in the charging/apps etc. My CT and charger so far have worked together fine. I wonder if there are certain build dates that are having the issues?

OP please be more specific as to what the mobile app is doing or not doing when it indicates no charging:
  • Is it connected to the car? You can tell if the circle (upper left) is green)
  • Do both the car and device have connectivity (wifi or cellular)
  • Has the account been properly established?
  • Are you using the mobile app for timers etc? If the car is not connected to the app via the Porsche server, nothing will happen. Have you tried using just the PCM?
I have noticed that my car and my phone can be in the same location (day after day) and sometimes the app won't connect to the car. As Daveo4porche has said, there are plenty of software issues.

sure thing.
  • yes. Left side of the circle is green.
  • device is definitely connected. Car should be, but not sure how to check. From a bit of reading, it doesn’t appear possible to attach the car to wifi.
  • yes. Account was setup at Porsche.
  • yes. This was all set up on the car. Not the app.
basically, the app doesn’t always show that the car is charging, when it is. So we have to go to the car to check if it’s charging.

also, is there anyway to check if the car will be charging at the set time? This is what I’m most bewildered by. The car is set to charge up to 85% every morning by 6am. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. “Sometimes” problems are the worst…

this is normal for the porsche connect behavior at this time - Porsche sucks at software - you are doing everything right - the Porsche Connect app (infrastructure) sucks and this is normal - at least in my experience

Porsche’s mechanical engineering is excellent…

I have determined that the charger works backwards from your set charging completion time. So even though you have set the charging window to start at a certain time, if you only need say 25 percent to get to 85 percent it will only start charging much later in the time window. Not sure if this helps

Hey guys, Thought I would just chime in with one of the issues we came across. It seems that sometimes, the charge just fails. It shows up as a red light on the charger. We aren't sure why it fails, but if you press and hold the "button" (red light area) on the charger for 10 seconds, it will reset. Then, you can charge again. We're still trying to figure out why it fails sometimes, but atleast there is a relatively simple fix.

@Muskoka I had the same issue with mine. Its a faulty on board charger. Porsche is using this **** OBC and they just will not replace it with a good one that is available. They keep replacing these with the same part. I dont know why. Anyway I think you need to take it in to the dealer and have them replace it. Mine was so bad that it would not charge at all anywhere EA, or at home.

Could you PM me with which dealership you went through? If this continues, it would be easiest to put the dealership in contact with yours, so they have some context as to what's going on. I'm not sure if my dealership has gone through this before...
